Lorelei is half elf in a kingdom where that bloodline is synonymous with "slave". The Umbra King holds everyone captive with his pet dragon who knows no mercy. She hides in the shadows and steals to stay alive, until a rebel group gives her an offer she can't refuse.

The King seeks a bride. If she can get close enough, she could drive a dagger into that wicked man's heart. But the bridal games are more difficult than most. Lorelei must prove herself not only beautiful, but talented, poised, and deadly as the king. However, the closer she gets to saving her kingdom, the more she realizes a singular problem stands in her way.

The dragon.

The King's bodyguard is more than a slathering beast. He's a man. And the longer she's near him, the more she realizes that perhaps the king isn't the most dangerous person in the kingdom. Perhaps she had to guard not only her body, but her heart. For a dragon mates for life, and they're hard pressed to give up their treasures.

I am so happy I finally picked this book up off my TBR. I love Emma’s writing style. The words flow easily and create the most beautiful image in your mind. I have yet to pick up a book of Hamm’s that I didn’t like.

I enjoyed this first book. In the end, I was really hoping for the dragon and half elf. There were surprises and lingering questions. Of course a cliffhanger, which I don’t really like. I will hoverer, check the next book because I want to know what happens next.

Okay I know this is on her backlist but holy crap! I wish I didn’t wait so long to read it. I love how the story was told and the important themes spotlighted during the book.

I loved this book. It was fast paced, exciting, and hard to put down! I was too excited to see a Leshy included in a fantasy novel. Emma always does her research and creates my favorite side characters. I can’t wait to read the next one!

A Wonderful and Unique Story

The story telling is great and the narration is well done. I love a good audio book that has narration that give life to the words they read.

Lore was a bit whiny and didn’t show as strong as I thought she would, but she’s likable enough.

Abraxus…I adore this dragon. He must be protected at all costs. He is fantastic.

Love the cleaner romance in this especially after a spicy book. The angst and longing is fantastic and is thrown in at all the right points.

For a classic fantasy romance book with a plot that’s pretty predictable, it was well done. I recommend this to those who want a book in between series but don’t want something super crazy.

Abraxus

The author did a good job on world building. Lore, female lead, is a little too whiny and "and why me" than I like in "strong" female leads; but still likeable.

Abraxus is the dark knight and shining armour. By no means perfect; just as a main hero should be in, my opinion.

The plot is a bit predictable only because I have listened to soooo much romantic fantasy. But the author threw a few surprises in that made the overall story a nice listen.

Narration is wonderful. I enjoy listening to the male and female voices. These are 2 of my favorite narrators so that's another plus!

If you enjoy Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer Armentrout, you will likely enjoy this story. It is very similar in theme but much shorter in length. T It was worth the credit for me. I have already purchased the other books.

I like the name choices in this story, rather than the typical "John"s and "Jane"s outside the main character. The story is even interesting.

this was a very good story. this had everything.... but I male voice was a bit off I think. but I was still able to enjoy the story.

I bought this book so long ago that I had forgotten what it was about but I really enjoyed the story and the performance.
