Two estranged sisters, Lillian and Adelia, struggle to come to terms after the mother they've believed to be dead for the past 15 years actually passes away. Confused and in shock, they travel together to the isolated village of their childhood to claim the farm that was passed on to them. There’s comfort in returning to this place of their birth, where a simpler, rustic life feels possible - but the sisters quickly realize that something is very wrong with the village and that their mother was hiding more than they could have ever imagined.

About the Creator

Amy Lukavics lives and lurks in Northern Arizona along with her husband and three children. A fan of scary stories since she was a child, she found excitement and comfort in her town's library and the horror section of the video store before eventually discovering Stephen King in her mother's bookshelf. When she isn't reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing roller derby with her local team, cooking, crafting, and playing games across various platforms.
Her novel The Ravenous was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award in the Superior Achievement in a YA Novel category, and Daughters unto Devils was a YALSA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Readers in 2017. Her short story, The Neighbor, was featured in Don't Turn Out the Lights, a tribute anthology for Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, edited by Jonathan Maberry.

Lauren Fortgang is an NYC based actor. Narrator very breathy as if everything is a cliffhanger. Storyline doesn’t give enough details and/or hints. For example why Darrell left with the girls and didn’t return when he learned his wife was alive. Weak ending.

I have listened to a lot of books , if I’m in the mood for something short I’ll take advantage of the short stories that audio provides. Most I’ve listened to have been pretty good but thank gosh I didn’t have to use one of my credits on this Novella.
It was silly, silly and just plain weird. Two sisters that return to their childhood farm that can only be accessed from horseback. Then they talk about changing into tank tops? Really? I’m not sure what time period this fits into. The narration was irritating to me. I listened to it all but I couldn’t wait for it to end. Not on my recommended listens.

I am always surprised with these short stories that are done so well. Definitely worth a listen, will not leave you bored. Great for when you want a little background noise when you're in a quiet room.

Like many others, I agree it is a great premise, and the build up starts out well. Ultimately, though, the ending feels forced and flatly written. With a good descriptive rewrite and more sub-plots, I'd gladly give it another read as a full length novel.

I enjoyed the story, but it left me wanting to know more. I would say it could have a part 2 in the future. I will keep a look out.

It actually took me two tries to get through this, although it turned out that I'd given up the first time just before things got weird and interesting. I'd like to read other works by this author.
