 This book is designed to be used by counsellors and therapists who are new to single-session therapy and who, having had some training in SST, wish to offer this mode of therapy delivery to their clients who are seeking help with specific problems. In this book, I outline 23 steps that are divided into four parts: (1) the pre-conversation phase, (2) the beginning phase, (3) the middle phase and (4) the ending phase and beyond. While I have presented these steps logically, I do not suggest therapists use them in this order. The best way to use these steps is to view them like a handy person views their tools in a toolbox. They won’t use all these tools but know where and when they are if needed.

Windy Dryden is Emeritus Professor of Psychotherapeutic Studies at Goldsmiths University of London. His goal is to disseminate SST, or what he refers to as ONEplus Therapy. His latest book is Dryden, W. (2025). Single-Session Therapy: An Essential Companion. Onlinevents Publications.
