Acerca de esta escucha

The discovery of two teenage girls' bodies and a video of a snuff movie showing the death of one of the victims leaves Detective Inspector Jack Frost in a race against time before the killer can strike again.

Meanwhile, someone is poisoning foodstuffs at a local supermarket chain. When the owner receives threatening demands to pay up or be put out of business, it is up to Frost to catch the blackmailer. As all leads dry up and Frost faces questions over the handling of the cases, he faces a threat to his professional life with the arrival of DCI Skinner at Denton Police Station. Is this the end for Jack Frost?

I want more books to which I can listen. It is laugh out loud funny, and very grim side of police work. I hope audible will add more R. D. Wingfield books

love the Frost Series

I found this a very good listen. It grabbed my attention from the start and kept it right to the end. The narrator was perfect for this book. Some parts were so funny I found myself still laughing days later. It's about a detective in the middle of England who is a bit of a Maverick but also very able. Was a toss up to give 4 or 5 stars.

Intrigue with a bite of humour. Awesome combination. The narrator made the book come alive and his character development had me in stitches. My only disappointment was that I couldn't find another book by Wingfield.

A fantastic book to kill long car journeys. Excellent story and excellent narrator. Please can we have the earlier Frost books in unabridged form read by Stephen Thorne?

A great journey-killer

I came across this book by accident and was extremely happy I did. A great book that has humor as well as a fantastic narrator. I am hope that audible decided to add more in the series.

So wonderful, one of my favorites

This is the funniest mystery novel ever. The characters are almost better than the story. Great narration.

Very Funny

An excellent police thriller featuring the most excellent, sloppy, darkly humorous, problematic and deeply politically-incorrect Detective Inspector Jack Frost. The tale itself is well-constructed, with plenty of red herrings and side-issues, to tax the brain, and make the situation more realistic. Warning: Senior police officers and ardent Welshmen could be offended, and , for them, parental guidance is suggested. Narrator Stephen Thorne does a marvelous job. What a pity this is the only unabridged Frost audiobook on Audible.

A Killer!

Jack Frost is not such a lovable character, but he is a mix of all those quirky detectives we have loved in the past - a little Columbo, Phil Fish, and Kojak rolled into one foul-speaking Brit. He does whatever he can to avoid paperwork unless it is to find a way to use his expense account to supplement his income. While Jack comes off as brusque, uncaring and careless, he is always thinking of ways to help those who can't help themselves. The problem is that he has to wade through the bureaucracy and idiocy that makes up the life of a Detective Inspector to get to what needs to be done. His higher ups have other priorities than to serve and protect and get in the way. He knows exactly which of his colleagues can get the job done, which might be starting out on the wrong foot and need to be steered in the right direction, and those that are best to avoid.

In this book, there are girls going missing and bodies being found. In the process of trying to see if there is a connection between the two and covering several other cases, Jack makes enemies with the manager of a grocery store and the father of one of the missing girls. He also meets a new coroner that sparks his romantic interests, but he has to figure out that he has romantic interests first. I don't think Jack gets any sleep in this book, and it is his sleep deprivation, and the inability of some on the force to trust Jack's intuition, that end up putting his life at stake.

I have listened to this twice, once in 2012 when I first bought the audible.com book, and recently to reacquaint myself with the character before listening to "Frost at Christmas", also from audible.com. This is one of those books I will be listening to again in the future, and I hope to get the other Jack Frost books on audible.com soon.

Curmudgeonly and crusty, but I want him on my side

Very enjoyable, I wish this author had more books. The narration is well done and adds to the story and character of Inspector Frost.

Good Fun

I guess this isn't my thing--and it may not be yours. It's trite, juvenile, corny, not suspenseful, not funny...the characters are stylized and predictable. It was rated so highly and has a good, creepy cover so I thought it would be chilling but wrong again. Guess the idiom is right!

Harry Potter-like without the magic
