Left with no other options, Adisa returns to her hometown, where, a few days earlier, a white police officer shot an unarmed black teen who is now lying comatose in the hospital. Adisa is itching to jump into the fight as a special prosecutor but feels pulled to do what she considers unthinkable as a young black woman — defend the officer.

Great story ruined by robot voice.
Revisado: 04-11-24
Story: 5 star. Narration and production: 1 star. Ongoing problems with playback during the book. Will NOT listen to any more robot voice books. Void of emotion and feelings. Awful.

Millionaire rock star Everett Lester had it all. His metal band DeathStroke played bars and honkytonks until a NYC record label discovered them and the band experienced a meteoric rise to the top of the record charts — and super-stardom. Despite Everett’s unfathomable popularity and riches, he was spiraling out of control into a dark existence where everyone wanted a piece of him, and where drugs and alcohol were his only comfort.

Didn't want to get out of the car
Revisado: 05-10-23
You know a book is good when you don't want to stop it.
This is that kind of book. The suspense ... and the twists .... in the narrative made it difficult to stop it when we arrived wherever we were driving to. Sometimes we'd just sit in the vehicle and keep listening.
Already looking to get the next book.

Historia
There's more than one kind of poison in this town. People are sick and dying. Rumors are swirling. Some claim chemicals leaking from a manufacturing plant are causing the cancer that’s crippling people on the poor side of Trenton City, Ohio. Yet nothing at the plant appears amiss. The problem remains a mystery until reporter Jack Crittendon’s longtime mechanic falls ill. As Jack investigates, he becomes engulfed in a smokescreen of lies, setups, greed, and scandal. The deeper he digs, the more toxic the corruption he uncovers.

Another proof that there is an author who can write a great book without compromising it with unnecessary foul language.
Now looking for another one from him. Going to stay with this author because he has the rare ability to write so well he doesn't need to use foul language to try to make it better.

When a stalker targets his family, journalist Jack Crittendon must uncover who the person is and what his motives are - if he is to protect the ones he loves. It will lead Crittendon into a world of behind-closed-door secrets and faith gone awry, as does his investigation of a missing pastor, whose apparent suicide is more than it appears.

A 5 star story that deserves a 5 star rating.
Revisado: 04-03-23
At last, a 5 star story that earns a 5 star review because the author has the ability to write an intriguing thriller without resorting to cursing and ungodly language to add to ... or to try to make a point.
Have stepped listening to several audio books by other authors before finishing because of language failures in their texts. 5 star stories with 1 star writing.
But, alas ... a real writer. With real writing abilities. Already have another book picked out by him to buy next.
5 stars. All the way.

1 star for a 5 star book
Revisado: 01-24-23
Easily a 5 star book until near the end when they used GOD'S name profanely. The 1 star rating is given because there is no option for no stars.
Was seriously considering other books from these authors. No more.
Moving on.

Lots of story lines. Lots of people to keep track of. Lots of intrigue. Lots of surprises. Lots to like in this book. Best thing though was there was almost NO foul language. That alone makes me want to pick more of his books to listen to.
