Historia
In 1971, Go Ask Alice reinvented the young adult genre with a blistering portrayal of sex, psychosis, and teenage self-destruction. The supposed diary of a middle-class addict, Go Ask Alice terrified adults and cemented LSD's fearsome reputation, fueling support for the War on Drugs. Five million copies later, Go Ask Alice remains a divisive bestseller, outraging censors and earning new fans, all of them drawn by the book's mythic premise: A Real Diary, by Anonymous.

I had no idea the scandal behind go ask Alice. As a daughter, granddaughter, niece, to many people drowning in addiction, I really connected with Alice's story. It's both isolating and heart breaking to know the evil that was truly behind it. However I am very grateful to have learned the truth, and wow I had no idea about Sybil!

Deeply moving
Revisado: 12-02-24
Absolutely a stunning novel, a must read for all multi generational Americans. This sheds so much light on so much pain, it is eye opening. The show holds no flame to the book, this is eons better. The biggest complaint people have said was about accuracy, however the author makes it extremely clear this is oral history being resold, it's as accurate as he could make it but there are some stitched together bits. Either way, I come out of this being proud to have my own ancestors also from the Gambia

Historia
The visionary writer and director of Get Out, Us, and Nope, and founder of Monkeypaw Productions, curates this groundbreaking anthology of all-new stories of Black horror, exploring not only the terrors of the supernatural but the chilling reality of injustice that haunts our nation. Featuring an introduction by Peele and an all-star roster of beloved writers and new voices, Out There Screaming is a master class in horror, and—like his spine-chilling films—its stories prey on everything we think we know about our world . . . and redefine what it means to be afraid.

So good
Revisado: 10-31-24
Most of the stories are wonderful, engaging, and dark. A few are too Sci-Fi, confusing, undetailed, and boring. but it's easy to skip those reached things. Some of the stories I wish got darker and scarier like the Montgomery Bus ride, a longer more evil story with the same end result would have been devoured. But still an amazing anthology

Historia
It is 1922, and London is tense. Ex-servicemen are disillusioned; the out-of-work and the hungry are demanding change. And in South London, in a genteel Camberwell villa, a large silent house now bereft of brothers, husband, and even servants, life is about to be transformed, as impoverished widow Mrs. Wray and her spinster daughter, Frances, are obliged to take in lodgers.

Not Sara's best work
Revisado: 10-30-24
Do not go into this with the expectations of Fingersmith, Affinity, etc. It's a good story but the end is like a wet paper towel, doesn't work and feels icky. It felt like there was quite a few chapters missing.

So Rushed
Revisado: 10-23-24
there's very little back story, the romance weaves through different relationships jn a way where it seems people are polygamous but it's not supposed to be? it made me too confused to continue reading. To unrealistic of what sticks of the time would've held for sapphic lovers, no drama or worry. As for the digital voice over it's not bad but feels too sped up, in places where there should be a pause especially for emphasis, the digital voice rolls right over it full steam ahead. I'm sure there is a way to edit the recording and tweak it before publishing.

Historia
Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown. In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn't impressed by Leo's fame at all. That isn't the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She's also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.

Swift fans will love
Revisado: 10-14-24
This to me reads very much like a Taylor Swift fanfiction, but make TS a lesbian. It's cute and fluffy, I did really enjoy learning about Asexuality through this book though. I haven't seen any Ace characters in my other books, so this was a pleasantly shocking surprise. PS thanks for the time stamp to skip anything too steamy!

Historia
It’s 1857, and anxious debutante Beth has just one season to snag a wealthy husband, or she and her mother will be out on the street. But playing the blushing ingenue makes Beth’s skin crawl and she’d rather be anywhere but here. Gwen, on the other hand, is on her fourth season and counting, with absolutely no intention of finding a husband, possibly ever. She figures she has plenty of security as the only daughter of a rakish earl, from whom she’s gotten all her flair, fun, and less-than-proper party games.

Revisado: 10-01-24
oh I loved this book! Definitely my new favorite from Jae. It was so sweet and innocent and fluffy, it makes my heart melt. I had my own negative assumptions about how this might go given the summary, but I should've know Jae wouldn't write anything derogatory. I myself am a late bloomer lesbian, so I could really resonate with the fears and nerves depicted. It's a very sweet story that gives me lots of hope.

Historia
In Geisha, a Life, Mineko Iwasaki tells her story, from her warm early childhood, to her intense yet privileged upbringing in the Iwasaki okiya (household), to her years as a renowned geisha, and finally, to her decision at the age of 29 to retire and marry, a move that would mirror the demise of geisha culture. Mineko brings to life the beauty and wonder of Gion Kobu, a place that "existed in a world apart, a special realm whose mission and identity depended on preserving the time-honored traditions of the past."
