Historia
Liv’s happy with life in her thirties. She has two cats, one BFF, and no boyfriend, which is just how she likes it. Plus, she loves working at a not-for-profit software company where she can be her authentically autistic self. This is her happy ever after. But when her beloved firm merges with a repulsive rival, Liv finds herself competing with her sort-of-ex for the top job. Sure, Finn had been Liv’s best friend, with his nerdy good looks and their shared love of Tolkien, but there was that one night, their song, and … well, she doesn’t like to talk about it.

topic well done
Revisado: 04-17-25
I like that there was a strong female lead who knew herself well enough to make strong decisions. it took a while for me to care for the male lead because I thought perhaps he was too much of a pushover, but he did come through in the end. I appreciate that autism is part of the storyline here, and that it is done in a positive realistic way. I am not a Tolkien fan but fully enjoyed the story anyway. it was not difficult to enjoy it despite not being a fan.

I was not sure they would be able to bring this all together, but they actually did a great job. a little bit of time travel fantasy that I would generally avoid but it actually worked out quite well. both characters were likeable and you got to understand the more deeply than many characters and most books

although lately I have been not finishing several books because they are boring, I found this one engaging and I stayed remaining with it. I also appreciated the fact that the sex scenes were implied behind the closed door and not explicit. I will say that I had to look up to confirm that possums are living in the Caribbean, and was actually semi-pleased that they actually followed through to form on that. although I've had enough experience with a possums that even when when they faint and fall over I would not pick them up

Historia
Amy Weaver is tired of her dad meddling in her love life. Fed up, she hires an actor to play the part of her fake cowboy fiance when she goes home for her grandpa's 90th birthday. Sure, Luke Jenkins has got looks, charm, and muscular legs, but this is business, pure and simple. Things are fine and dandy until she finds out he's a real cowboy, not an actor. Now, she's stuck between a rock and his chiseled jawline, falling faster than a sack of horseshoes. How the heck is Amy supposed to ignore the sparks between them and stick to her rule of not dating cowboys? All bets are off.

not my favorite
Revisado: 01-21-24
Usually I love titles by Richard Amooi. In particular i enjoy the use of humor and the lack of unnecessary sex scenes. However I can't recommend this book. I haven't decided if it is the story or the narrator, I got 2/3s through but could not complete it. The actions of the niece were very juvenile and unexplainable, The acceptance of her actions was really ... hard to explain. Because of this he hero and heroine were really not highly likable. I didnt respect them and didnt enjoy their story. The father was difficult, and generally unlikable but also realistic - perhaps the most realistic character of the lot- but I was not engaged enough to get to the end. I don't normally say this about stories, but I generally like the author and I wonder if different narrators would have made it seem like a totally different book. Generally I adore this author, I just cannot recommend this one title

It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

lively surprise
Revisado: 12-31-23
this was an excellent story . I read very few stories that I can read/listen to without rolling my eyes at naive characters and formulaic sex. I get so frustrated that so many romances are overshadowed by formulaic sex or naive preachieness. Neither was present here. and I enjoyed the characters enough that I was more engaged with the story than with skipping chapters or stopping in the middle of the book. I look forward to reading more from this author.

thoughtful
Revisado: 11-04-22
I'm not sure that this book belongs under under romantic comedy.. It was more like a story, calmly told in a thoughtful way to get the listener to think about it, to think about how their actions influence or are influenced by others. there is a storyline that included cooking competitions that certainly demonstrated interest and passion in that field. we would all love to meet a soulmate, and it is a good story for that. but i cant say i laughed at all. theres a satisfaction to the book as there might be to a good meal, and many of the life lessons shared through conversation may be familiar to mature readers, but the speed is very slow and not much is accomplished other than to remind the reader to be true to yourself. i cant say it was a 'feel-good' story. but neither was it naive , juvenile, or a total fantasy. i grew to enjoy the narration, and it was a nice listen for driving or bedtime. cant say it was climactic. but if you are looking for traditional romcom, this is not it.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

I had delayed listening to this book although I was familiar with the author. however I thought it was one of her better books, and it was very well performed. entertaining and actually believable, despite giving the impression it was going to be a shallow relationship. I actually enjoyed this author a lot and encourage you to not put it off like I did out of fear of it being not enjoyable. laugh out loud several times and well worth the time invested

Historia
Stephen Jenkinson explores the great paradox of elderhood in North America: how we are awash in the aged and yet somehow lacking in wisdom; how we relegate senior citizens to the corner of the house while simultaneously heralding them as sage elders simply by virtue of their age. Our own unreconciled relationship with what it means to be an elder has yielded a culture nearly bereft of them. Taking on the sacred cow of the family, Jenkinson argues that elderhood is a function rather than an identity.

I thought this would be a thought provoking book. I've tried to decide if it is the narration or the author and I think it is both. I simply cannot get any interest in the language of this book. I cannot bring myself to engage. try a clip before you buy.
