My least favorite of the series
Revisado: 05-23-24
I found this one difficult to get through. Usually I don’t notice the length and am surprised when I find myself finished with each story, but this one kept me painfully aware of the hours creeping past. I don’t know if it was the story or the new narrator that caused the drag. It does include a difficult subject, and one that we still haven’t solved, but most of the stories touch on sensitive subjects. I don’t think the subject matter was the problem. I’ve enjoyed the series overall, and will try the next book. Hopefully this was just an anomaly.

“Oh dear!” Not my favorite
Revisado: 11-15-23
Not my favorite of the series. I found several characters extremely annoying. My dislike of the characters was exacerbated by the narrator who has a tendency to use the most obnoxious characterization available for each person. Hoping the next book gets things back on track.

Never liked rewriting of the classics
Revisado: 10-21-23
Overall not bad. I did finish listening to it. However, I’ve never liked people rewriting the classics and calling it their own.

Historia
When therapist Jill Davent moved to the village of Carsely, Agatha Raisin was not a fan. Not only was this therapist romancing Agatha's ex-husband, she dug up details of Agatha's not-too-glamorous origins. Jill also counsels a woman, Gwen Simple, that Agatha firmly believes assisted her son in some grisly murders, although there is no proof. Not one to keep her feelings to herself, Agatha tells anyone who will listen that Jill is a charlatan and better off dead.

Painful Narration
Revisado: 07-25-23
I’ve been enjoying the Agatha Raisin series, but can’t abide this narrator. I feel like I’m listening to a very poorly performed story time for children. All of the characters sound the same, and none are appealing. Disappointing turn for a cute and cozy series.

Great story, great series
Revisado: 06-17-23
I was a bit concerned before starting this book because I read some of the bad reviews left by others. I am happy to say that while I can see where their opinions come from, I do not agree with them at all. Overall it is a delightful and entertaining mystery. I find it well written, and well narrated. I thoroughly enjoyed this publication.
Stories that present us with the attitudes of those in the past can sometimes be difficult for modern sensibilities, as can mentions of the passion and controversy associated with religious ideals. This book deals with both in an open and mostly respectful manner. I enjoy being able to see situations and ideas through the eyes of another, and this book allowed me that opportunity.

Narrator Change
Revisado: 06-08-23
I’m not a huge fan of the new narrator. I’m sure they do very well on other projects, but I didn’t feel that their style worked well with this piece. The cadence and intonation were both out of sync with the writing style.

Historia
Trust is a delicate thing, and no one knows that better than Rosalind Thorne. Lady Melbourne has entrusted her with recovering a packet of highly sensitive private letters stolen from her desk. The contents of these letters hold great interest for the famous poet Lord Byron, who had carried on a notorious public affair with Lady Melbourne's daughter-in-law, the inconveniently unstable Lady Caroline Lamb. Rosalind is to take up residence in Melbourne House, posing as Lady Melbourne's confidential secretary. There, she must discover the thief and regain possession of the letters.

Good series, but historical inaccuracies
Revisado: 05-22-23
I have been enjoying the series with it’s vibrant characters. I have, however, been distracted by the historical inaccuracies. The author refers to events that did not happen at the same moment in history, one being nearly 40 years off the mark. It’s still enjoyable, but the listener should be prepared for the timeline to be a bit off.

Okay, but disappointing ending
Revisado: 02-20-23
I wanted to finish off the series after already investing in the first three books. The story was okay, but not the greatest. The mystery wasn’t very mysterious but actually rather obvious. I was disappointed in the ending in every way. It felt like the character gave up on what she really wanted to give in to what everyone expected of her, in more ways than one. Would really have liked to see this turn out differently.

Narration Irritating
Revisado: 01-22-23
I’ve been listening to this series. While I enjoy the stories, the narration has gotten progressively more annoying. It started out in a normal manner, but by this installment the narrator has switched to mostly using this irritating baby voice. I assume it’s supposed to be an elf voice, but it didn’t start that way, and none of the other elves speak that way. It’s very difficult to listen to. Not sure I’ll make it through this book, much less make it to another.
