Historia
Leo Tolstoy is quite simply one of the greatest writers to ever set pen to paper. Immortalized by such epic novels as War and Peace and Anna Karenina, Tolstoy's genius was also readily apparent in his short fiction. The Death of Ivan Ilych follows the career of the unremarkable title character, who does not question his desire to live an "easy, agreeable, gay and always decorous" life, until he is lying on his death bed.

Well written and sincere
Revisado: 01-23-25
It vividly describes the pain experienced by a terminally ill man on his deathbed. I felt the author portrayed Illyich as a sincere man.

Historia
Volume One of Stalin begins and ends in January 1928 as Stalin boards a train bound for Siberia, about to embark upon the greatest gamble of his political life. He is now the ruler of the largest country in the world, but a poor and backward one, far behind the great capitalist countries in industrial and military power, encircled on all sides. In Siberia, Stalin conceives of the largest program of social reengineering ever attempted.

Superb Account of Stalin. Superb narrator.
Revisado: 01-17-25
The narrator is excellent. I fell asleep to this book many nights. The story is eye opening and gives you the party perspective of the Soviet Union pre WW2. This book is mostly about the Bolshevik's crimes against their fellow party members. The countless betrayals all fueled by the pitiful need of authoritative approval by party leadership will leave you dumbstruck. You learn about the ways in which party leadership often used psychological tactics to keep the public and other party members in a state of confusion, self-doubt, and unquestioning loyalty. This is not just book about Stalin, it is also about his countless "friends" he steamrolled during his political career and the innocents lynched in the process of him consolidating his power.

Historia
Dear America! is the incredible first-hand account about how a young American teenager, Thomas Sgovio (1916-1997), miraculously survived 10 years in Stalin’s brutal concentration labor camps in Northern Siberia. After being released, he was forced to spend an additional 5 years in the timber regions of central Siberia as the Russian government would not allow him to leave the country, or live in any major city. After the death of Stalin, Thomas was finally released. It took him an additional 5 years working as a commercial artist in Moscow before he finally succeeded in extricating ...

I liked the star of the story. He was a young and impressionable kid who just so happened to end up in Russia at the worst possible time. The story is insane and hard to imagine. It is a fascinating subject overall.

Historia
The essential guide to radiation: the good, the bad, and the utterly fascinating, explained with unprecedented clarity. Earth, born in a nuclear explosion, is a radioactive planet; without radiation, life would not exist. And while radiation can be dangerous, it is also deeply misunderstood and often mistakenly feared. Now Robert Peter Gale, M.D. - the doctor to whom concerned governments turned in the wake of the Chernobyl and Fukushima - in collaboration with medical writer Eric Lax draws on an exceptional depth of knowledge to correct myths and establish facts.

Informative
Revisado: 01-03-25
I learned much about Health Physics from this book, particularly statistics about radiation exposure and its health effects. This book covers the most important aspects of nuclear radiation. It is a good read. The narration is solid. The pdf is informative and not too technical just pictures.

Historia
Some of the cruelest deeds of Japan's war in Asia did not occur on the battlefield, but in quiet, antiseptic medical wards in obscure parts of China. Far from front lines and prying eyes, Japanese doctors and their assistants subjected human guinea pigs to gruesome medical experiments in the name of science and Japan's wartime chemical and biological warfare research. Author Hal Gold draws upon a wealth of sources to construct a portrait of the Imperial Japanese Army's most notorious medical unit, giving an overview of its history and detailing its most shocking activities.

I never knew what the Japanese during WW2 were capable of. This book transports you into the mind of a mad scientist.
