Clear explanation of the 3 major groups of Protestantism
Revisado: 12-19-24
Doctrine is made very understandable for what sets Lutheranism apart from Arminianism and Calvinism. I’m inspired by the in-depth research and study done by Flame followed by much thought about what Scripture says. And then he had the courage to act accordingly. I recommend this book to friends and family.

Straightforward Advice
Revisado: 12-01-24
I liked that there was nothing unrealistic about her advice. I found I am already doing what was suggested and that made me feel good. The 3 values she mentioned are also mine: religion, family, and health. Other books I’ve read or listened to on minimalism are so extreme and unrealistic that they don’t do anything for me, but this book isn’t like that.

Historia
ABC News anchor Dan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals, play Ultimate Frisbee, and use the word namaste without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to embrace a practice he'd long considered ridiculous. Harris discovered that meditation made him more focused and less yanked around by his emotions. According to his wife, it also made him significantly less annoying.

Ten Percent Happier app is expensive and only 1 week is free
Revisado: 08-12-24
I bought this book because it said that it would provide access to the meditation app Ten Percent Happier, but there is only one free week and after that it’s $99/year. It was implied that buying the book gave permanent access to the app, so I felt ripped off.

Historia
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

Inspiring with deep, real truth, nothing phony
Revisado: 02-27-24
I was so moved by this biography of this famous woman who I knew nothing about except she kept her faith and worked with the Indians who killed her husband and four other missionaries. This story will impact your life and faith if you allow it to touch your heart. She had the same horror of platitudes that I do. It is so rare to find a friend one can be real with, no mask, no pretending. Elizabeth Elliot was such a person. I highly recommend this book

Historia
A photo on Masih's Facebook page: a woman standing proudly, face bare, hair blowing in the wind. Her crime: removing her veil, or hijab, which is compulsory for women in Iran. This is the self-portrait that sparked "My Stealthy Freedom", a social media campaign that went viral. But Masih is so much more than the arresting face that sparked a campaign inspiring women to find their voices. She's also a world-class journalist whose personal story, told in her unforgettably bold and spirited voice, is emotional and inspiring.

Emotional outbursts turned me off
Revisado: 02-15-24
The way the author repeatedly freaked out over things related to getting married the second time made me think for a while that she was psychotic. Her husband-to-be was amazingly patient with her. She said she was a terrible mother and I agree with her because she just wasn’t stable or reliable. I have respect for her efforts to free Muslim women from mandatory hijab and her dedication to journalism. But the end of the book about “My Stealthy Freedom” got repetitive and boring with too many examples of the same thing over and over. I’m glad things finally settled down for her at the end. I wish her well, but could never be friends with someone that flips out fairly often, is so extremely intense, and such a heavy smoker.

Historia
Ida had never forgotten the faces of starving Indian children. She hated India - it was full of horrible situations she could do nothing about. Ida Scudder was sure she would never follow in the footsteps of her medical missionary father. But when she witnessed Indian women dying because their religious beliefs didn't allow male doctors to treat them, Ida heard herself pray, "God, if you want me to, I will spend the rest of my life in India trying to help these women."

I have to ask—what happened that our modern day doctors are so lack luster? Doctors I’ve seen allot you 5 minutes and couldn’t care less about you. Just make your co-pay on the way out. This woman was inspiring and courageous. I wish this book was required reading in medical school! If they’d have a tenth of her dedication, it would be a vast improvement. To God be the glory for such an amazing trail-blazing woman!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Fabulous Favorite!
Revisado: 06-08-23
I thought Rosamund Pike did a great narration of this favorite book of mine. I loved so many of her voices. Mrs. Bennett’s voice is exactly as it should have been considering the kind of woman she is. My enjoyment was increased by slowing down the speed to .85. I marvel at the impressive vocabulary that Jane Austen had.
