So disappointed in this story

I normally like this series and after his introduction, I couldn't wait to read Aveoth's story. He seemed like a strong, charismatic character, instead he was boring and more beta male than alpha. I absolutely couldn't stand Jill, way more b*tchy than Bat which I didn't think was possible for a love interest, villain or mean girl character designed to be hated in favor of the FL. Really hard to like her when she is just as unlikable as Win. I'm about half way through and it's taking everything I have to continue when all I want to do is stop this story & move on & hope the next is better, though I may take a break from this series until my annoyance cools. Most of the other stories at least counteract some of the less enjoyable parts with humor & a great narrator. The narrator did her best with this one, but the problems were beyond her control. I seriously hope no other FL is anything like Jill or it might turn me from this series permanently. After wonderful female characters like Kiera & JD, Jill's glaring short-cummings is just so disappointing, then add in supporting characters trying to tell us how great she is - yeah, no. Someone else may like it, but I did not.

LOVED the narrator

Well written and nice character development with only a few plot holes & complaints but nothing too distracting from the enjoyment of the wild ride the author & the expressive narrator took us on. I smiled & laughed as well as hurt & got angry, sometimes all in the same chapter. Thanks, this was truly entertaining.

Make sure to start with 'The Other Realm' first to get the start of Lucy's story, but it was just as entertaining as this so not a hardship. The narrator did a great job & everything flowed nicely.

World & character building & how things connect

At the very start of the series I wasn't sure I would be able to get into the story. Between the accent & understanding the world being created, it was a bit of a challenge & more than a little confusing, but once I got used to everything & picturing what was happening, everything was fine. Soon the story takes shape, the characters come alive & I found myself laughing, angry, sad, & at times a bit teary. I don't always understand the author's choices on things, but I am enjoying it & want to know what will happen next. Definitely worth the time.

I am enjoying the stories though it's frustrating that each quest is a different book. The AI narration is definitely not as good as a narrator but not a deal breaker, it just lacks the personality and inflections that make a story come alive with a really good human narrator; you can never quite forget that it's not & thereby get lost in the story. I also find the glaring hypocrisy of Tink placing rules to not steal & punishing E for only bending it when she is the one that stole their things to begin with is beyond annoying & hard to get past every time it's put front & center in our face. But other than those couple things, I'll continue to listen & see how things play out.

It's an unfinished book but good start

It's being released as a series when really it is 1 story broken up into separate books so people have to spend for each piece rather than the whole. I also bought the audiobook and it was only a little more than 2 hours. It can not stand on its own like a series book should be. A beginning, a middle, and an end - that is a story, that is a book. This is a beginning, that's it. Though I like the story so far, I dislike and am disappointed with the format. Feels like I'm being played. If it isn't a full story, then it should be a box set, or better yet, combine the three incompetent stories into the full story it should be. I would not have wasted money on the audiobook if I'd have known.

Well written and entertaining but disappointed

It was a good series but after events in the last chapters of the final book, I became disappointed and upset, so much so that I couldn't enjoy it anymore and didn't care; I even started to dislike the main character.

Ever get into a story and suddenly realize that the 'hero - good guy' you have been rooting for the whole time is not only flawed, but responsible for many of the problems. They are like a fireman who sets fires then 'saves the day' by putting them out. They are the cause of the heartache with their stupidity, piss poor decisions, and selfish personal motivations. That is essentially the main character in a nutshell but you don't really realize it until more than halfway through the last book when her tragic decision based on her own bias and selfishness caused a horrible death of a less than perfect character that did the wrong things for the right reasons. Then that death is just glossed over and ignored while the story goes on to talk about her happy ending that because of her actions, I couldn't really care about. I actually found myself despising her and couldn't help thinking she didn't deserve it as I held out hope that wrong would be righted. To each his own, but I couldn't forgive her or forget what she did.

I enjoyed both the story and the narration. She did a good job bringing the story to life in a flowing, animated style without awkward pauses, inappropriate and distracting music, or a boring, wooden tone . The story was fairly short and could easily have been extended leaving room for any continuation either with this couple or any of the other characters introduced. I would have happily listened to more.

A good but somewhat slow story.

At times it kind of put me to sleep but interesting enough to have me finish it. There were a few errors but nothing too distracting. It's kind of predictable so can multitask without much trouble
