If you have a cluttered home, from simply too much stuff to suffering hoarding disorder, in my opinion, this is a powerful, inspiring and well-presented book of messages, suggestions, solutions, ideas to ponder, and a great deal of food for thought for evaluating your current happiness in the state you’re in, versus the potential happiness of living in a decluttered home, thereby living a less cluttered life, whether or not to the extent of minimalist living.

I’m trying to answer this question, but have to say each section was helpful and applicable to another.

I liked that the writer doesn’t waste the reader’s time. It’s simple and to the point instructions are easy to understand with encouragement and the ever necessary reminders to be patient. The entire book is written with compassion for the dog and there are explanations for the reasons for a particular method. The humor is perfect, relaxing and often delightfully unexpected.

The grotesque violence.

I stopped listening after about an hour, knowing I didn’t want such extremely violent behavior in my thoughts. There should be a warning and if there was, I missed it! Who but a psychopath or horror seekers find torture entertaining?There isn’t enough tragedy and suffering going on in our world to satisfy even the most compassion-deprived than to choose the torture of humans for entertainment? It’s just not something I can comprehend, at least not for “normal” tastes of what is entertainment. IMO.

The heinous abuse and the ability to forgive. Drive and tenacity. Character.

I found Viola’s story to be disturbing and her father’s abuse toward her mother unbearable. How he wasn’t terminated by at least one of the children is beyond me. I simply cannot fathom knowing such barbarous behavior is going on and not putting a stop to it, however it had to be done. I’ve thought over and over of ways to accomplish this as a young child, completely overpowered by a real live monster. Why am I feeling more desperate to make it stop than are those frightened and tormented children? I’m neither a violent nor angry woman, but I am confident it would never have happened a second time.

Viola’s unconditional love is hard to understand. Her journey has been most folk’s worst days times 10 and yet nothing made her quit.

Inspiring and depressing, hopefull, powerful, extraordinarily well presented and valuable. A history lesson, a psychology lesson, an unforgettable myriad of lessons.

I’m grateful for Viola’s sharing her story. Now I need to heal from it.

Intelligently written.

Thoughtful and thought provoking, a disturbing reminder of how limiting life was in the 50s. Excellent and often subtle humor pops out in unexpected moments in this otherwise serious novel. I found it interesting from beginning to end.

A different style of narration, but once I got past it, I found it interesting. Rather predictable. The loving made it feel more real as that’s when the main characters communicated.

Instead of being protective around my house I would find that I had unconsciously sat myself down, to do nothing but listen. I’m not sure I have ever read a novel by Sandra that I didn’t enjoy enough to recommend to my reader friends.
