Historia
Former soldier. Ex-copper. Current man on the edge. Shunned by his old colleagues, and dividing his time between a dead-end job and the bottom of a whisky bottle, former Police Scotland detective superintendent Bob Hoon’s life is a mess. Then an old face from Hoon’s Special Forces days turns up asking for help: His teenage daughter has been missing for months, the police have drawn a blank, and he needs the kind of help that only Hoon can provide. And besides, Hoon owes him one.

Great Story but Foul Mouthed Protagonist
Revisado: 02-04-25
The story and characters in this book are well crafted. The narrator excellent. The potty mouthed main character was well written. I found his language a little too much for me. It was an enjoyable listen anyway, except that I think the ending could/should have been better.

Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Just Ok
Revisado: 11-06-24
The story was ok. The plot could have been better. I hate stupid characters who do stupid things and there were lots of stupid things done by characters in this book. Narrators can help to make or break an audiobook. This narrator helped to break the book. She gave all the characters practically the same voice, an annoying high school mean girl voice. I do not recommend this book.

Some call him friend or boss. Some call him husband or dad. Some call him son, even a favorite son. But the only title that matters to him is the one the media has given him: the Poet. A name he earned from the written words he leaves behind after he kills that are as dark and mysterious as the reason he chooses his victims. One word, two, three, a story in a poem, a secret that only Detective Samantha Jazz can solve. Because, he’s writing this story for her.

Not Bad Story, but...
Revisado: 08-20-24
The storyline was not bad, however, I found the lead character painful. You read some books with characters that do no self-reflection or introspection. This one does so much introspection, she sounds neurotic. Every day, every single time she appears, which is right throughout the story, she is thinking how wonderful she is. She is so in love with herself, she comes across as narcissistic and judgmental. I don't think anyone would enjoy her company.

Historia
In Harold Macmillan's Britain of the early 1960s the Bar is dominated by white, privileged, Oxbridge men. Underneath a profession which proudly flaunts its integrity and traditions lies a world of hypocrisy and ruthless self-interest. When scandal threatens, self-preservation is the only goal and no one is indispensable. Ben Schroeder, a talented young man from an East End Jewish family, has been accepted as a pupil into the chambers of Bernard Wesley, QC. But Schroeder is an outsider, not part of this privileged society, where wealth and an Oxbridge education are essentials.

Great Plot and Characters
Revisado: 03-07-24
This book was well written. The plot was engaging. It gives an inside view of how barristers and solicitors worked together and how they operated in the courts in early 1960s England. Characters were well developed. I found myself liking some, resenting some and feeling frustrated with others. The narrator was excellent. I certainly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Historia
Beth and Cath are leaving their husbands. This is a story about two very different women. One is wealthy and having an affair with a man who gives her the kind of love that her cold, detached husband does not. One is living hand to mouth, suffering at the hands of a violent partner who would rather see her dead than leave him. You may think you know these women already and how their lives will unfold. Beth will live happily ever after with her little girl and her soulmate. Cath will go back to her abusive husband. And these two women will never cross paths. But you will be wrong.

Not The Best in the Series
Revisado: 04-03-23
I enjoyed the story right up to the point where DI Riley got all self-righteous having to “do the right thing,” yet failed to do the right thing in cautioning a suspect about rights and getting a lawyer, before practically forcing a confession. The worst part is that there wasn’t enough evidence to secure a conviction without that confession. If you’re going to have such high ideals and be all prissy about doing the right thing and following your conscience, then you should do that always and be fair to suspects. The narrator was excellent as usual.

Historia
London. A newspaper editor is horrifically murdered, his death quickly followed by a series of more brutal and often bizarre slayings. The police are baffled, the only clear link between the murders being a single blood-red rose left at the scene of every killing. Why? What does the rose mean? What connects the killer to each bloody corpse? Scotland Yard detective Alan Winters leads a hunt for the elusive prey.

Awful Characters
Revisado: 11-12-22
I found the beginning of the story horrible. The animal cruelty almost put me off listening any further. I persisted and at the end of the book still don't see why the cruelty to the cat was necessary. It was totally gratuitous. The story itself was quite good, but the characters were not great, especially the female lead. I think main protagonists should have some integrity which I found missing from the main female. The other main characters were not so bad but not the sort that endear themselves. The narrator was very good.

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Simple Story
Revisado: 09-11-22
This is an amusing story about one of Jane Austen’s Bennett sisters. I enjoyed listening to it. The storyline was simple, perhaps a little too simple. The one element that bothered me, no irritated me was the silly music sound effects. To me it added nothing positive and in fact was a nuisance.

Very Good, Well Written Book
Revisado: 05-19-22
This is a very good book. The characters are believable and focused, the action fast paced. I've read some reviews complaining about animal cruelty. Do those people not know it exists? Do they know that murderers, in particular person who commit more than one murder, often begin with or also kill animals? There are about two mentions of the animal cruelty. It's a minor part of the story, which held my attention until I finished listening to it. The protagonist is driven and likeable. The narrator does an excellent job in portraying the characters, and moving the story along.

Historia
When Stieg Larsson died, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been working on a true mystery that out-twisted his Millennium novels: the assassination on February 28, 1986, of Olof Palme, the Swedish prime minister. It was the first time in history that a head of state had been murdered without a clue who’d done it—and on a Stockholm street at point-blank range. Internationally known for his fictional far-right villains, Larsson was well acquainted with their real-life counterparts and documented extremist activities throughout the world.

Way Too Long Treatise
Revisado: 06-23-21
I've listened to 2 hours of this and can take no more. It's a draining treatise on all the unsuccessful investigations into the assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Palme. The book offers up countless people who are investigating; mainly journalists and police officers, all of whom fail to solve the murder to this day. The book at 12 hours and 7 minutes is about 10 hours too long.
