Historia
Ranged against two powerful communist terrorist armies, the small, under-equipped army of Rhodesia defied all military convention by not only resisting the onslaught, but taking the fight to the very heart of the ZIPRA and ZANLA terrorist machines. The efforts of the Rhodesian army and air force shocked the world; how could such a small force of men repel the hordes of Russian and Chinese backed communist terrorists who threatened to overwhelm them? At the very heart of the Rhodesian war effort lay the RLI. The Rhodesian light infantry Commandos were second to none. Brave, tough, ...

I would buy Mr Peter as many beers as he wanted if I ever met him. My boys and I thoroughly enjoyed his account of the Rhodesian Bush War.

Historia
Hollywood icon Laura Dern breathes new life into Louisa May Alcott’s classic. With their father away at war, Meg, the oldest and prettiest sister, and Jo, the tomboy, take care of Beth, the shy one, and Amy, the artist. When their beloved 'Marmee' must leave to nurse Father, who is badly wounded in the war, the girls sustain themselves by putting to use the lessons of loyalty and patience they had learned from their family.

Finished but overall not happy
Revisado: 02-10-23
It has been at least 10 years since I read the book so I didn’t catch the fact that it was censored and abridged. Now I’m aware of it I’m very disappointed. I’m a mom of 5 and depend on audiobooks to enjoy my old favorites now; I hate knowing I got all the way through only to have gotten the cut-down version. The dramatization felt a little overdone at times too.

Historia
No running water, no car, no electricity or any of the things it powers: the internet, phone, washing machine, radio, or light bulb. Just a wooden cabin, on a smallholding, by the edge of a stand of spruce. The Way Home is a modern-day Walden - an honest and lyrical account of a remarkable life lived in nature without modern technology. Mark Boyle, author of The Moneyless Man, explores the hard-won joys of building a home with his bare hands, learning to make fire, collecting water from the stream, foraging, and fishing.

Could have been more concise and less preachy
Revisado: 07-07-21
There are genuine nuggets in this book, but you have to wade through the kind of pantheistic/feel good relativism and repetitive false profundity that colors the writer's outlook. It's sad, because in many ways he has clearly wised up and come down to earth, and I would buy him a pint if I were in the neighborhood, but while rejecting the post industrial economy he has fully embraced the shallow post Industrial, post modern lack of coherent religious thought. He admits and even praises religious communities and says that religion is one of the key ingredients of a successful group, but then takes very little time to sort out why that is so and what it means.
