This was so boring I had to quit.
The AI reader didn't help. Who is deciding not to have a real narrator? I bet the author is not happy.

Historia
The Trail is a moving story of how nature helps us find what’s missing in our lives. The tale begins with Gil, who in the wake of his father’s death and recently fired from his job, agrees to accompany his father’s old hiking partner Syd on a month-long trek on the John Muir Trail. There’s just one problem: Gil hates camping and is woefully unprepared for the rigors of the journey. Moreover, he soon learns Syd may not survive the hike.

Great story
Revisado: 03-20-25
Even though this was a long story, the way the author wove humor and characters into this story was entrancing. The history of the JMT was also enlightening. I could have done without the use of the "F word" so much, but overall this was very entertaining.

Historia
Bored and fed up with life, staring down a 50th birthday, Mike Tyler was looking for a change. Life had become routinized and unexciting. Maybe it was a mid-life crisis, or maybe just a yearning for one last big adventure. Mike decides to try hiking from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, just to see what happens. Mike convinces his wife, Margo, to join him. Together, they embark on a five-month hike full of anticipation. They hike through some of the most stunning and remote places in the country on a trail full of unique, offbeat characters.

How well the author wrote to make you feel like you were there.
Revisado: 01-27-25
I liked everything EXCEPT the fact that the narrator mispronounced "Mt. San Jacinto" over and over. Jacinto starts with an "H" sound, not a "J" as it is Spanish.

Did not like virtual voice
Revisado: 01-22-25
This was a good story with great description of Alaska's beauty, however, the virtual voice really ruined many parts. There was no pausing many times where needed, and not enough inflection in the high action drama. The story needs to be updated in the technical aspect as blueberries aren't used anymore nor are the RC helicopters. Drones and cellphones have taken their place. For a free story it kept my attention.

Too much violence
Revisado: 01-20-25
The craziness of the violence in each day is unrealistic. No one could sustain that much harm to their body and keep going. Also the narrator has a weird way of leaving her sentences turning into a question like sound where there is no question! The premise that polar bears need saving is real....just needs to be told differently.

Revisado: 10-16-24
The story was well written, complex, and had good character development. I was very sorry to realize that this seemed to be the end of the series. Maybe Keith McCafferty will come up with another some tie in the future.

Narrator needs to get her accents straight!
Revisado: 10-16-24
The main story line was rather macabre and gruesome, complicated by the protagonist and her son hearing and seeing "ghosts" at odd times. This did nothing to help the story and could easily be left out. The narrator used an over exaggerated southern accent for the protagonist (her son had no accent so that didn't make sense). Also the reporter had a horrible nasally sounding "Boston type" accent which made no sense either. As a reporter, that accent would be the first thing to be nixed from her voice from her employer, as her living would be made by having a melodic timbre. Overall, not the greatest. I was hoping to listen to the whole series which I thought would focus more on K9 rescue. Now I probably will forgo the rest.
