I was surprised at how natural the speech sounded in this book. with few exceptions (colons are read aloud and occassional mispronounced words, poor inflection) it was easy to listen to. the author spent time in the text and made plenty of relevant biblical (and extra biblical) references. the author is not overly academic and has several personal stories that I could do without but other readers may find appealing. thanks for having this as a resource. I look forward to listening to other commentaries by this author.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Through it all, Bailey employs his trademark expertise as a master of Middle Eastern culture to lead you into a deeper understanding of the person and significance of Jesus within his own cultural context.

this is much richer than I anticipated. my intent was to listen passively. not possible. I'll have to go back and study this alongside an open Bible. the pdf attachment was helpful but not useful when driving. set your expectations accordingly: it's full of relevant material, but needs to be paused from time to time to allow full digestion.

Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

great thought excersise poor story
Revisado: 12-09-21
I understand that the authors are unlikely to sell any copies of this if written in the form of a complete thought excersise, but that's what I was looking for. some of this exists withe the dialog between the leaders of the town but I still wanted more. the story was good, not great, but performed the task of maintaining engagement. this was helpful, but didn't provide many practical solutions on what individuals could do to prepare for an event like this... possibly because there isn't much to recommend which adds to the gravity of the threat. thanks to the team that brought this book to life

lay person's dream
Revisado: 08-25-19
this book is littered with information that I'm sure psychologist went to school to study. but for a layperson it's very helpful and understanding how to break down a single habit into its parts so that good ones can be reinforced and bad ones can be changed. I wish the appendix was a chapter by itself with more detail.

this book was a fun journey. I enjoyed the holidays series better. however the insight the book provides was very intriguing. I'm glad I read it. I'm also glad I had the characters from the TV show to help cement the imagery that I felt was missing from the book.
