Good story, vitrual voice, Eh!
Revisado: 12-23-24
I listen to Audible books to help me concentrate on my work. Crazy, I know, but it really does help me. I can get lost in a good book and I can manage to keep my mind on work and just speed through my day. Virtual voice just really does not do it for me. While it has gotten better, it still can't beat the warmth of a human voice. It does not have the proper inflections of a human voice, and I have noticed a lot of mispronunciations. That is one of my main issues, outside of all the others. Only one portion of my brain is listening to the reading of the book and then there is the mispronunciation. It's like a record and the needle skips all the way across! It will pull all my concentration directly to that one word. Forget concentrating on work! Wait! What?? What did it just say?? That isn't even a word! Come on Audible! Let's get some humans back into reading these books, please??

Great Story Line, narration, well...
Revisado: 10-24-24
I really love the story line. I love hearing the Hebrew pronunciation of Biblical names that I have heard all my life pronounced in an English way. I love the way that Ms. Cossette has taken a time in the Bible and has made a fictitious story from that timeframe. I only wish I had the ability to do that. My only issue with this audiobook is the narration. When one person is simply reading, the narration is very good. However, when they are "talking" to each other it very stilted, like they should have practiced their parts just a little more. If you can deal with the stilted speech, you will love the story. Oh and the one thing I always look for when I am looking at reviews, it is a very clean book. No inappropriate language or scenes.

Virtual Voice is not for me
Revisado: 02-26-24
I was not able to listen long. I'm sure the story is great and I might like to read the books later but I could not listen to the computerized voice any longer than I did. It didn't take long for that voice to get on my nerves and give me a headache. That is not what I pay for! I started my account years ago as a way to distract me from the people around me at work and to keep me focused on my computer so that I could get more work done. That virtual voice is not soothing nor is it anything to catch my attention. I want a narrator to catch my attention and hold it in an exciting story or to soothe my mine in a story that is calm and soothing. This virtual voice does neither for me. Sorry Audible but if all the books in the Plus Catalog resort to the Virtual Voice, you will lose a long time customer.

Loving this series but...
Revisado: 07-11-23
I really love this series. Very clean. Very imaginative. There is just one thing that has bugged me throughout the entire series. The main character is always telling the ghosts to do this or that but the word please is never uttered. I'm southern so maybe it's just a southern thing but I would have said "Maxie, please check out....." or "Paul, can you please....."

Language

I love the story and the performance is great. However, I don't think the excessive vulgarity is necessary. The story would be much better without it. Due to the language, I did not finish this one.

Historia
In a rare and gorgeous departure, beloved novelist Alice Hoffman weaves a web of tales, all set in Blackbird House. This small farm on the outer reaches of Cape Cod is a place that is as bewitching and alive as the characters we meet. These interconnected narratives are as intelligent as they are haunting, as luminous as they are unusual. Inside Blackbird House more than a dozen men and women learn how love transforms us and how it is the one lasting element in our lives.

Not sure what I just listened to
Revisado: 11-22-22
I will start by saying that I listen to my books while I am working so yes, I might not catch everything that happens in a story. However, I normally am so engaged in a book that my day just flies by. Not with this book. I know that the house/farm is really the main "character" of the story, I can't really say much more than that. It was very confusing and leaves me wondering what I just listened to. If I were forced to write a book report on this one, I would fail. I'm sure there are some that will enjoy the book. Some will not care for it. Some will be like me and just be confused. You be the judge for yourself.

Great story but not thrilled with the narrators
Revisado: 06-16-22
Great story but not thrilled with the narrators. They are pretty much monotone. Everyone in the book sounds bored. No one has any excitement by the sounds of the voices. While I loved the story line the monotone narration takes away from the story.

Narrator saves this one
Revisado: 09-08-21
I couldn't get into this one. Gave up less than halfway into it. From the other reviews I have seen, I'm glad I gave up early. However, the narrator saves this one for me. I love her voice and the way she reads. I could listen to her read a phonebook (yes, I'm telling my age). I would enjoy finding more of her readings, just not this book.

Good story
Revisado: 08-13-21
Good story. Really enjoyed the book itself, however, the narration was way to monotone and jilted. The narrators had no personality where the book was concerned. It came across as they had not read the book beforehand. This would have been much better if they had read the book first and were able to give the characters some personality when they read the parts. Audible missed the mark on this one.

Great story line. Narration is another subject.
Revisado: 07-06-21
I am on chapter 30 at the time of the review. The story line is really good. The narration is another subject though. Female reading a female part...Great! Female trying to do a man's voice? Horrible. Male reading a male part...Great! Male trying to do a woman's voice? Horrible.
Rather than trying to do voice impersonations, just read the story. If you are a man and come to a female part, do not try to do a female voice. Or, if you are female, just read the story and do not try to do a male voice. These issues really hurt the story. I will finish it because I just can't let books end without finishing, unless it's just that bad that I cannot bear it. However, I will continue to cringe at the horrible impersonations.
