Historia
What if pro-slavery Democrats kept their party united and won the election of 1860? What if Jefferson Davis became President of a pro-slavery Union, while Abraham Lincoln must decide whether to fight for a new birth of freedom outside it? In this alternate history, there will be no secession of the South. But what about the anti-slavery men in the North? Will the United States, now styled “The Confederate Union,” still be their country? “Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that ...

I picture the author with his mom’s encyclopedia. Britannica set, opened up next to the word processor way too obsessed with minutia details and rattling off names more or less lost to history just to show that he can. To do so cost momentum and a decent storyline

Historia
It was the most remarkable political about-face in American history. During the Civil War, General James Longstreet fought tenaciously for the Confederacy. He was alongside Lee at Gettysburg (and counseled him not to order the ill-fated attacks on entrenched Union forces there). He won a major Confederate victory at Chickamauga and was seriously wounded during a later battle.

Superficial skimming
Revisado: 04-25-25
Superficial, canned. Perhaps every page has one shot at how Racist, ignorant etc the South was. Yes, we know Slavery was wrong. We know how much virtue signalling the author engages in. Now that said, how about a decent biography of one the the Confederacy’s best Generals

Not too bad.
Revisado: 04-07-25
Anything in this story line is good for a fan. This one a bit lacking and also long winded in parts, as if Clancy’s publisher / editor said Tom add more is too short..so endless dribble about Kansas facility or environmental bs - the lacking part was no President Ryan. An existential threat to humanity at extinction level and not a peep of involvement from the President? Really? Guess POTUS isnt briefed in on mundane events such as this. Director CIA Ed Foley and Rainbow 6 cover these things lol. Ya, im a big fan but come on..

Historia
Its messaging can seem cryptic, even nonsensical, yet for tens of thousands of people, it explains everything: What is QAnon, where did it come from, and is the Capitol insurgency a sign of where it’s going next? Mike Rothschild, a journalist specializing in conspiracy theories, has been collecting their stories for years, and through interviews with QAnon converts, apostates, and victims, as well as psychologists, sociologists, and academics, he is uniquely equipped to explain the movement and its followers.

Not serious work.
Revisado: 10-06-24
I was seeking serious background as I want to learn and understand this subject. The author is condescending, contemptuous, and dismissive. Q may be a bs conspiracy in the end, but Rothchilds dismissive flippant aire confirms for nut jobs the left trying to hide something. I will look elsewhere for a serious analysis. This book is a waste of time

The Civil War: A Narrative, Volume 1 begins one of the most remarkable works of history ever fashioned. All the great battles are here, of course, from Bull Run through Shiloh, the Seven Days Battles, and Antietam, but so are the smaller ones: Ball's Bluff, Fort Donelson, Pea Ridge, Island Ten, New Orleans, and Monitor versus Merrimac.

Brilliant HISTORY not fiction
Revisado: 05-07-24
The uber left insult a work of magnificent brilliance and try demeaning it as “pro Confederate” historical fiction. I’d love seeing Shelby Foot cut the liberal revisionists off at the knees if still alive. This is neither pro Union or Confederate. It is historical fact. Something not to be erased of forgot by those with agendas

Historia
The author describes the experience of being in bombed-out, dangerous, post-war Nuremberg, where she lived for two years while working on the trial. This landmark trial resulted in the establishment of the Nuremberg Code, which sets the guidelines for medical research involving human beings. Doctors from Hell is a significant addition to the literature on World War II and the Holocaust, medical ethics, human rights, and the barbaric depths to which human beings can descend.

Historia
The Brandenburgers were Hitler's Special Forces, a band of mainly foreign German nationals who used disguise and fluency in other languages to complete daring missions into enemy territory. Overshadowed by stories of their Allied equivalents, their history has largely been ignored. First published in 1984, de Giampietro's highly-personal and eloquent memoir is a vivid account of his experiences. In astonishing detail, he delves into the reality of life in the unit from everyday concerns and politics to training and involvement in Brandenburg missions.

Historia
Heinrich Himmler was an unremarkable-looking man. Yet he was Hitler's top enforcer, in charge of the Gestapo, the SS, and the so-called Final Solution. We can only wonder, as Peter Longerich asks, how such a banal personality could attain such a historically unique position of power. How could the son of a prosperous Bavarian Catholic public servant become the organizer of a system of mass murder spanning the whole of Europe? In the first comprehensive biography of this murderous enigma, Longerich answers those questions with a superb account of Himmler's inner self and outward acts.

Narration terrible and bland I assumed it was AI not human. Where do I begin? Every time the name “Gestapa” was used i wanted to scream. - the book itself gets bogged down in minutia and long-windedness, jumps all over as far as chronology goes, and is a regurgitation of common knowledge of Himmler. If you do buy it listen to 30 min summary at end and get what the book is about.

Historia
Using his own experiences, log books, and correspondence with other U-boat crewmen, Hans Goebeler offers rich and personal details about what life was like in the German Navy under Hitler. Since his first and last posting was to U-505, Goebeler's perspective of the crew, commanders, and war patrols paints a vivid and complete portrait unlike any other to come out of the Kriegsmarine. He witnessed it all, from deadly sabotage efforts that almost sunk the boat to the tragic suicide of the only U-boat commander who took his life during World War II.
