Historia
In this social history of the impact of railroads on American life, H. Roger Grant concentrates on the railroad's "golden age," 1830-1930. To capture the essence of the nation's railroad experience, Grant explores four fundamental topics - trains and travel, train stations, railroads and community life, and the legacy of railroading in America. Grant recalls the lasting memories left by train travel, both of luxurious Pullman cars and the grit and grind of coal-powered locals.

Just a staccato presentation of information
Revisado: 08-21-24
No real flow to this book. Just presented, in a rather mundane manner, a collection of facts or tidbits.

Historia
Under the leadership of her fearless skipper, Captain Gene Fluckey, the Barb sank the greatest tonnage of any American sub in World War II. At the same time, the Barb did far more than merely sink ships-she changed forever the way submarines stalk and kill their prey.
This is a gripping adventure chock-full of "you-are-there" moments. Fluckey has drawn on logs, reports, letters, interviews, and a recently discovered illegal diary kept by one of his torpedomen.

Engaging!
Revisado: 04-28-22
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and the quality of the narration. I found myself cheering when a torpedo would find it’s target and saying “dammit” when one would miss or go astray. What an amazing record the Barb and her crew achieved. Splice the mainbrace!

Is my funnybone broke?
Revisado: 05-28-10
Downloaded this book yesterday based on the previous glowing reviews. Had high expectations that I'd be laughing so hard I'd wet myself. Got through the first hour with barely a chuckle. I consider myself as someone having a pretty good sense of humor but just didn't find this material very funny. I'm no prude either but did Justin's dad REALLY cuss like a sailor around the house and in front of young kids?! Sorry, this one didn't work for me and I refused to subject myself to the remaining hours.

Historia
The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

Typical Flynn
Revisado: 11-17-09
I've enjoyed each and every one of Vince Flynn's books. This one was no exception. Kept me engaged throughout. I will say that the ending felt a little rushed and somewhat predictable but nonetheless I highly recommend this book. The one complaint - I have to wait another YEAR before his next book?!

Historia
Catherine Blake is the model war widow. Ever since she lost her RAF pilot husband in the Battle of Britain, this beautiful aristocrat has kept a stiff upper lip while caring for victims of the blitz in London's hospitals. The problem is that Catherine Blake is also a deep-cover Nazi spy, charged by Hitler with uncovering the details of D-Day.
Her nemesis is Alfred Vicary, a fumbling professor of history barely able to remember where he placed his threadbare tweed jacket. But Vicary is also a confidant of Winston Churchill, who has chosen this reclusive don to run England's critical...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was engaged throughout. I rarely had to "rewind" to follow the story line. I thought the narrator's voice was pleasant and effective. Think this would make for a good movie and was disappointed that this wasn't already done!
