An authentic and riveting thriller, it is a highly acclaimed novel of a fighter pilot’s experience in the era just before 9/11. As the US military enters another postconflict period, the themes of leadership during crisis and accomplishing the mission make Punk’s War more relevant than ever.

An inside view of Naval Aviation
Revisado: 12-10-23
Author Ward Carroll was known to me by his YouTube channel, and I was familiar with his no nonsense approach to telling short tales of his time in the service as well as great interviews he had conducted. What I was NOT prepared for was the seamless way which he was able to tell the story of several "fictional" Naval Aviators in both cold War AND active wartime!
I was prepared for his factual style of storytelling, but what I was NOT prepared for was his ability to make the characters COME ALIVE in the book. Ward's ability to weave the day to day of these Aviators and the HUMAN ELEMENT had me listening NON STOP to all three books in the Punk trilogy.
If you are interested at all in naval aviation and appreciate a good story then this series is well worth the listen.

no ketchup!
Revisado: 07-02-23
it was interesting listening to the history guy recount the history of hot dogs in America, especially since I was born in Chicago although I moved away before I was 10 years old. I can still remember going to Wrigley Field and getting hot dogs during the games or just on a street corner or wherever! while I have been known to eat ketchup on hot dogs myself I will never forget our uncle Billy saying that mustard only was the correct condiment for hot dogs. LOL. all kidding aside this was an excellent show and whether you have strong feelings about hot dogs or not this will give you a good feeling for the kind of insight that the history guy brings to both his podcast and his videos on his YouTube channel. I definitely recommend checking him out.

Historia
Over 12,000 helicopters were used in the Vietnam War, which is why it became known as "The Helicopter War". Almost half of the helicopters, 5,086, were lost. This memoir describes first-hand the harrowing experiences of helicopter pilots and crews in combat operations, from the far South to the DMZ, including the infamous Ashau Valley, Hamburger Hill, LZ Airborne, and others. 19 Minutes to Live illustrates the incredible courage and determination of helicopter pilots and crews supporting those heroes that carried a rucksack and a rifle in Vietnam.

The Unvarnished Truth of Helicopters in Vietnam
Revisado: 03-30-23
as a former AH-1S Cobra crew chief, I spent hours listening and grinning at the accounts of this veteran Cobra pilot. although Vietnam was before my tours of duty, several of my pilots were Vietnam vets. (I served 1984 to 1993). With the exception of my last assignment as an instructor at USAALS I was always in an Air Cavalry unit and wouldn't have it any other way. a must listen. Thanks for all you did Lew.

A "no bullshit" account of SFC Hendrickson's life.
Revisado: 03-15-23
if you are looking for an account of a green beret time in the service during wartime then this is the book you should be reading! this has been on my list for some time and it just so happens I met a friend of Ryan's who had been in the Air Force and she reminded me of my desire to read this book. Ryan gives you a no nonsense account of what it is like to go through basic, the selection process for special forces soldiers in the U.S. Army, as well as very personal details of the things that went into him making the choices that he did. as a former Army vet who was in during Desert Storm but did not deploy, it was interesting to hear his account of everything that was happening after Desert Storm and during the Afghanistan campaign. A definite "must read"

Tom and Ray at their Best
Revisado: 01-22-23
If you're searching for car talk looking for something longer than the half hour show then you already know that there is no such thing as "Bad" Car Talk. it's for our compilation features some of the better shows from their long run and also features such treats as their mother on a mother's Day episode, and also sort of "Designer" edition of car talk with Martha Stewart!
definitely a good way to pass 4 hours on one of those long over the road trips or even along work out session, just anytime that you need to brighten your day and put a smile on your face.
