Historia
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Short enjoyable read

I thought this book was nice. It had plenty of humor to keep it entertaining and I found myself caring about the main character and her journey.

Historia
My name’s Ernest Cunningham. I used to be a fan of reading Golden Age murder mysteries, until I found myself with a haphazard career getting stuck in the middle of real-life ones. I’d hoped, this Christmas, that any self-respecting murderer would kick their feet up and take it easy over the holidays. I was wrong. So here I am, backstage at the show of world-famous magician Rylan Blaze, whose benefactor has just been murdered. My suspects are all professional tricksters: masters of the art of misdirection.

Worth the read if you like the series
Revisado: 11-17-24
While it wasn't as good as the other two books, it's a short little story that's a fun side story in the series. Emphasis on SIDE STORY! He explains the rules of a "Christmas Special" in the book and so if you apply that to this story, it helps you appreciate it for what it is. The explanation of how someone becomes covered in blood is very weak and it's the only explanation I really didn't LIKE. Overall, a fun read if you've enjoyed the other two books.

Regret is real!

Regret is real!
Revisado: 10-23-24
I always go back to this particular podcast when I'm struggling, off track or need to be reminded of the reality of taking care of my health. It really hits home that one of the biggest things people say at the end of their lives is that they regret letting time pass and just not taking their health seriously. I've seen this play out in real life. Loved ones dying too early. People unable to do basic things for themselves, not because of an illness but from not taking care of themselves at all. Totally preventable issues leaving them feeling helpless. A short podcast but has blessed me so much!

The Men We Need

Historia
The world needs real men, real bad. And there are all sorts of conflicting ideas and messages about what a "real man" is (and is not). Is a real man one who hunts, loves sports, grills meat, fixes cars, and climbs mountains? Sure, sometimes. But that's not really the point of being a man. Brant Hansen paints a refreshingly specific, compelling picture of what men are made to be: "Keepers of the Garden." He calls for men of all interests and backgrounds to be ambitious about the right things and to see themselves as defenders of the vulnerable, with whatever resources they have.

A genuine book by a genuine guy
Revisado: 06-08-24
I really enjoy Brant Hansens work. This is a great book to understand the roles of a man in this world according to scripture without relegating women to a lower standard. I listened to it as a female and loved everything about it. It will serve me well in teaching and leading my boys as they grow up.

Historia
Christians who are confused by the homosexuality debate raging in the US are looking for resources that are based solidly on a deep study of what Scripture says about the issue. In People to Be Loved, Preston Sprinkle challenges those on all sides of the debate to consider what the Bible says and how we should approach the topic of homosexuality in light of it.

Compassionate author
Revisado: 01-24-24
What a wonderful book that takes a deep dive into the complex issue of homosexuality and what the Bible says about it. It thoroughly researches the Bible, researches the specific words used in the original text and takes into account many of the most often cited arguments for an affirming belief. All the while, the authors holds a compassionate stance and encourages the reader to treat people as Jesus would. If you were same sex oriented and/or affirming of it, you could read this book and see that the author has taken great care to recognize that regardless of what the a Bible says on the subject, the Bible also shows how we are all unbelievably flawed and the greatest way we can love Jesus is to love each person, regardless of their "sin". I learned that same sex orientation is far more complex than boiling it down to the six verses that are in the Bible about it. All of us, trapped in our sin are set free by the sacrifice of Jesus and all of us are people to be loved.

Some people think Hawaii is paradise, but Monk knows that danger, like dirt, lurks everywhere. Look at Helen Gruber, the rich tourist who took a fatal blow from a coconut. The police say it fell from a tree, but Monk suspects otherwise. His assistant Natalie isn't exactly thrilled about Monk's latest investigation. It was bad enough Monk followed her on vacation, and now it looks like the vacation is over.

I liked this story overall. Fun to see Mr Monk in a different setting. I like how kind he is to Natalie. I was confused how he solved the murder and there was still 2 hours left but was pleased with the ending!

Historia
With the story of her conversion as a backdrop, Rosaria Butterfield invites us into her home to show us how God can use “radical, ordinary hospitality” to bring the Gospel to our lost friends and neighbors. Such hospitality sees our homes as not our own but as God’s tools for the furtherance of his kingdom as we welcome those who look, think, believe, and act differently from us into our everyday, sometimes messy lives - helping them see what true Christian faith really looks like.

I loved this book. I loved the recording of it and that she actually sang the Psalms! It challanges you to evaluate whether or not you really are living a life of radical Christian hospitality.
