Inane Dialog,
Revisado: 05-06-24
This was free and I’m grateful for that, since Audible has tightened up their return policy. The dialog was tedious and flat, getting no help from the AI narration. The storyline was just below OK.

Three dead. Shot point-blank. A hot summer day just got hotter. Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agent Doc Hunter had a golf game scheduled. Doc was a good golfer. Very good. Thinking about going pro. But now all of that had been put on hold because three people on a farm got themselves shot and Hunter's boss had decided he needed to be the one to investigate. Doc wasn't happy about the assignment, and was even less happy when he finds there is a cover-up and a suspect list that only seems to keep growing. On top of that, he has a killer who has a lot more killing to do. As the body count ...

Nothing Hilarious about it
Revisado: 02-09-24
After reading the synopsis I bought this book. Quite honestly it was nothing like I expected, certainly not hilarious (not even once), and I resent paying for it. Though well written, it was depressing watching these unlikable (and in my opinion) unsympathetic characters careen from one stupid decison/bad consequence to another. Didn't care for the ending either. I felt it showed a real lack of imagination (queue the last episode of the Soprano's. Who died?). Obviously this is subjective, and I'm sure there are folks out there who will disagree. But I when I loudly yell at a character and almost return the book several times without finishing, it's pretty bad. In fact, having gone through it, I'm going to return it.

The main character is a bit dramatic for me
Revisado: 11-28-23
Too much internal dialog. When the bullets are flying everything doesn’t stop so you can reflect on your life, character, etc. plus the storyline just wasn’t believable. Some random thing always happens to save him. I started this series because it was free but after this one I think I’m done.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-23-23
I thought parts of this were ridiculous. For example, the way the “cranky” cop ran around speaking to people and his behavior. And of course wle can’t get by without throwing white privilege and racism in wherever possible. The storyline was OK, but spoiler alert, I found it hard to believe that a drug dealer with that many people on the take at such high levels , that much money, and that far of a reach couldn’t kill one clueless therapist with more brains than common sense. I feel like sometimes these celebrated writers who have been around a long time cruise on their reputations and story templates. It didn’t help that I didn’t find one character likable in the whole book, especially the main character. If the book hadn’t been free, I would have returned it. Disappointing writing coming from such an established writer.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-20-23
I like Nelson DeMille and usually like his books. The premise was really interesting, but some of the scrapes they got out of were pretty far fetched, and by mid-book, I was ready to kidnap and torture the female protagonist myself, instead of leaving her to the Russians. That's a joke for those of you who got palpitations reading that last line :)

Ridiculous
Revisado: 01-20-23
This book was so silly. The only reason I made it to the end was because it was free and I only half listened while I did chores around the house. I don't want to spoil it for those brave enough to try it, but so much of it was far fetched, and I've never cared for books where you know who the "bad guy" is right at the start. I prefer to figure it out.
