Historia
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

Thoroughly Enjoyed
Revisado: 08-19-23
Just the right touch of bawdiness with early 20th century discretion. I have gotten used to the narrator, who uses the same raspy high voice for all female characters. The narrative held my attention, and I was sorry when the book ended, although the wrap-up was entirely adequate. Enjoy!

disappointing
Revisado: 05-03-23
I mistook this for a writing by Viktor Frankl. It is a review of his philosophy punctuated with snippits of his life. I did not care for the examples he chose to illustrate his points. It seems the author took his inspiration from media accounts of courage in the face of adversity. I was hoping for something more inspirational to recommend to a friend who has difficulty with his internal narrative. The title is great.

Historia
The experience of a past life regression can be a very powerful tool. There are many who believe that each of us have lived many lifetimes - lifetimes that may cause us to hold onto traumatic or painful memories. Sometimes these memories can carry over into our current lives causing pain and trauma. If you are exploring a past life, you might discover some karma that helps explain some of the challenges you are going through in your current life.

No expectations
Revisado: 07-03-22
I had no expectations about this. But it is very interesting to me, even if I am not Cleopatra or Mary Magdalene or Queen So-and-So. I've got some startling images, and little insights from this Audible. Worth a shot, and the sleep portion is very effective as well. There is no "story"--or I cannot stay awake enough to get to it, if there is one.

I have never read a sci-fi book before, ever, and
Revisado: 05-29-22
I am 75. I have only recently rediscovered fiction. I read some in my childhood. I read this book because a beloved cousin mentioned it, and the reviews were all rave reviews. Having no experience in sci-fi, I have no idea how to compare it to other works. For the first almost 100 chapters, I slogged on. I thought the romance was some kind of artifice, the time line(s) confusing, and the writing clunky. The logic was interesting. The government characters had integrity; that was intensely refreshing though fictional. We don't have much in the way of integrity in government these days. With persistence, arriving at around chapter 100, this book became compelling of the can't-put-it-down variety. Without intending any spoilers, I had real tears in my eyes at the end. I am glad I read this book. I am going to get some of the author's nonfiction, more my genre. Because of this book, my expectations are high.

Historia
For the first time in any modern language, a female scholar and translator reimagines The Art of War. Sun Tzu’s ancient book of strategy and psychology has as much to tell us today as when it was first written 2,500 years ago. In a world forever at odds, his rules for anticipating the motivations and strategies of our competitors never cease to inspire leaders of all kinds.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

After 60 years
Revisado: 02-05-22
Still good. The message endures 60 years after my first reading. Now I understand more fully the ideas, especially the comments on old age. I reread this with the idea to pass this along to a young person who has had a difficult experience of life. I think it would be a hard read for a younger person, very distant from the type of speech in this book.
Dr. Frankl's writing contains many seeds for continued efforts for ourselves and our world.

It would be a great pleasure if I could introduce a person to this author. I think EVERYONE knows about O. Henry and his short stories. If not, let me say he is known for a surprise twist at the end. If you went to public school in the U.S., you probably read "The Ransom of Red Chief".

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

refreshing common sense
Revisado: 12-06-21
I don't know why I got this book. I am old and often cannot remember what motivated me to buy a supplement. I usually can remember why I bought a book. Because I'm old (well into me eighth decade of life), the colloquial why these common sense ideas are presented, is jarring, but more refreshing than jarring. I enjoyed this book and the cheerful, positive narration. I encourage anyone to read it, either struggling with "stuff" or just interested in how to deal with the s*** that happens.
