Historia
An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

What a Disappointment
Revisado: 11-09-24
I'm sure I'm not the only one...I've read To Kill a Mockingbird several times. Harper Lee did not succeed in repeating her capacity to offer a sublime and penetrating story line in this long delayed sequel. What a shame.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Not a good Audible choice
Revisado: 08-28-24
The story is a good idea, but it jumps back and forth in time, towards the end of WW2, then 12 years earlier, then forward to near end, then back...Possibly, in a written format, with the Year Spelled Out as the next Part opens, this is clear. But to a listener, it's confusing. By the end you understand the story, but I found it annoying. I had to keep rewinding to discover " what Year is this now!" It's written as if the listener is also Blind.
I don't recommend. I'm returning it.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Quite Enjoyable! Def a "Re-read"!
Revisado: 07-19-24
This was recommended by Audible after listening to The Guernsey Literary &Potato Peel Pie Society. I had never heard of this author before, but she writes an engaging historical fiction without being overly sentimental. I look forward to listening to her other works in thus time period. A Real Pleasure!

January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb.... As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

Historia
The Story of a Soul conveys St. Therese of Lisieux's "Little Way" of spiritual childhood - her "elevator" to Heaven, as she called it. This method was approved by Pope Pius XI as a way for all to grow in holiness through unfailing confidence and childlike delight in God's merciful love. Again and again in this audiobook, St. Therese shows us how her "Little Way" of love and trust comes straight from Sacred Scripture.

What will we do with our lives, and with whom will we do it? In this story of flying and catching, Nouwen invites us all to let go and fly, even when we are afraid of falling. During the last five years of his life, best-selling spiritual author Henri J. M. Nouwen became close to The Flying Rodleighs, a trapeze troupe in a traveling circus. Like Nouwen’s own life, a trapeze act is full of artistry, exhilarating successes, crushing failures and continual forgiveness. He wrote about his experience in a genre new to him: creative non-fiction.

Revisado: 04-06-24
The very few memorable lines could fill one paragraph . After listening to this I have decided there's far too many other books and authors I long to read and ponder, than to bother with the couple I had in my Wish list by Henri Nouwen. I deleted them, deleted this laborious story as well.

Historia
Near the end of her life, Mary Mann Hamilton (1866-c.1936) was encouraged to record her experiences as a female pioneer. The result is the only known firsthand account of a remarkable woman thrust into the center of taming the American South - surviving floods, tornadoes, and fires; facing bears, panthers, and snakes; managing a boardinghouse in Arkansas that was home to an eccentric group of settlers; and running a logging camp in Mississippi that blazed a trail for development in the Mississippi Delta.

This woman's life was Full! Full of Life, Death, Love, difficulty, grueling hard work....She lived a Life worth living and has encouraged me. I thank God for our ancestors, and pray that I too am setting a good example of the Joy that comes with living out His Will in my own simple life. I will definitely re-lisien to this narration.
