Historia
King Ludwig II of Bavaria was an enigmatic figure who was deposed in 1886, mysteriously drowning three days later. Eccentric to the point of madness, history tells us that in the years before he died Ludwig engaged in a worldwide search for a new kingdom, one separate, apart, and in lieu of Bavaria. A place he could retreat into and rule as he wished. But a question remains: did he succeed? Enter Cotton Malone.

EXCRUCIATINGLY TIRESOME!
Revisado: 03-25-23
I love Cotton Malone, but this book was so confusing and boring I couldn’t finish it. Too many characters. The Bavarian dialect was poorly developed. So much interruption for historical information I lost track of the story. The storyline was not believable to me, at all. I tried until, halfway through, I couldn’t take any more. I wanted to return it, but I guess I tried too long,

ITS ALWAYS THE NARRATION!
Revisado: 07-16-22
I enjoyed the story. A bit long, but ok. The narrator, however, ruined it. He sounded like he was reading off a teleprompter. I think I would have enjoyed it more with a better quality narration.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Revisado: 10-29-18
I am a Grisham fan and have enjoyed most of his books. I thought this one might be on a par with “A Time to Kill” or Sycamore Row”. Loved both of those. This book is awful. Many chapters drone on and on about horrors of war, and way too much fluff till I found myself saying “ would you just please get on with it” actually fast forwarded through some of the war stuff. I think the worst of it is the entire story is about one question. Then it keeps sort of going there, but not quite. You have to wait through all of the stuff to the last part of the last chapter for the answer. Then it ends. Kind of whiny and flat.
I will read Grisham again, but I’ll be more careful about wasting a credit.

Detective Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD, but his half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller, needs his help. The murder rap against his client seems ironclad, but Mickey is sure it's a setup. Though it goes against all his instincts, Bosch takes the case. NARRATOR RUINS STORY!
Revisado: 11-16-15
What did you love best about The Crossing?
Love Michael Connelly and Harry Bosch! The story was intriguing and well written. Have listened to all of his books. This one would have been much better if I wasn't thinking how bad the narration is.
If you’ve listened to books by Michael Connelly before, how does this one compare?
This one is not as good as others because the narration was FLAT!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Titus Welliver?
Dick Hill or Len Cariou. They successfully acted the narration with passion as they were in the story. Welliver, although fine as Harry Bosch in the Amazon series, is not a narrator, he is a reader. Not the same.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, no passion in the narration so not as moving as it should have been.
Any additional comments?
Don't the authors listen to their books when they are read? I can't imagine Michael Connelly would approve this poor quality production of his work.

Revisado: 09-16-15
As usual Simon Vance is amazing and makes this book seem better than it is. The story was hard to follow and it needed less technical and number stuff.
Took a long time to get to the point, but then, not sure I cared much about the point. Expected more based on the other 3 in this series.

WORST NARRATOR EVER!!
Revisado: 02-06-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Do the authors ever listen to the narration of their books? This was a plausible story but I cannot finish it. This narrator sounds like he likes to read to children with absolutely no consciousness as to what character is speaking. Words slurr together and he distracts totally from the story.
This is a thriller and should be read as one, not as a children's book.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would like to finish the story because it has intrigue and it could be good. Do it again with a different narrator
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Thomas Block?
George Guidall, Dick Hill, Will Patton. Actually, almost anyone else who knows how to read thrillers.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment because I really cannot finish it. I am about 4 hours in and can't take another minute. Good thing I got it on sale!! Didn't waste a credit.
Any additional comments?

Historia
Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Lacking facts but roused by suspicion and troubled by seemingly random acts of terror around him, Gregory starts to fear for the safety of the people he loves. The question of the inviolability of confidential disclosures made to Gregory by his patients - privileged information - becomes crucial as the psychologist pursues an unsettling romance with Lauren Crowder, a lovely deputy district attorney investigating one of the deaths. Bound to silence, Gregory follows the psychological tracks of someone he fears may be a cunning and disturbed killer, while turning to his enigmatic but supportive partner, Diane Estevez, for counsel, and to his tart-tongued female urologist neighbor for support. The sinister, surprising drama unfolds against Boulder's Rocky Mountain backdrop, in the arresting natural beauty of Aspen, and in the midst of a baroque Halloween costume party in downtown Boulder. Finally, in a lonely mountain lodge enshrouded in menace, the story comes to its breathtaking climax.

Revisado: 07-01-13
What did you love best about Privileged Information?
It was well plotted and thought out. Not an easy one to figure out.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It did, I kept waiting for the clue that would help figure out what was going on!
Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?
Dick Hill is one of my favorite narrators. He does the perfect Alan Gregory
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Suspense to the end!!

Steve Berry is a great historical writer.
Revisado: 07-01-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The King's Deception to be better than the print version?
Didn't read the print version
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. The Tudors fascinate me from a historical perspective. This story puts a really cool twist to the reign of King Henry the Eighth.
How could the performance have been better?
Anybody but the dramatic contortions of Scott Brick. I don't think I can listen to another book narrated by him. His whining got to me this time and added nothing to the story. It detracted a lot. Problem is I like most of the authors he narrates, so I guess I will have to read them. Don't the authors listen to the narration of their books?
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it was too long. Did love the story though!

TWISTS AND TURNS ABOUND!!
Revisado: 09-19-12
If you could sum up A Conflict of Interest in three words, what would they be?
Lots of surprises!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Oleg. It was always a mystery as to who he really was and how guilty he was or wasn't.
Have you listened to any of David LeDoux’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first listen to this narrator. Enjoyed his performance. He added alot to the quality of the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The revelation of the job loss. Don't want to give away too much.
Any additional comments?
This was a pretty well thought out work of mystery. It seemed that just when you think you are figuring out the story and characters, another twist gets thrown at you!!
Pretty cool!! Liked the story and the "hard to put down" continual story line.

AGAIN!! THIS IS THE WORST NARRATOR EVER!!
Revisado: 09-18-12
What did you love best about The Reversal?
Michael Connelly is the best author of crime thrillers. Always enjoy his characters and the way he builds the story. Look forward to his books!!!
What other book might you compare The Reversal to and why?
Similar to the Fifth Witness in that is another Mickey Haller and I like the character. Adding Harry Bosch is never a bad thing!!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The only thing wrong with Michael Connelly is his ability to choose a narrator!! After listening to Peter Giles on The Fifth Witness, I swore I would NEVER again listen to his books. However, this one was on sale so I thought, well I will give it another try.NEVER AGAIN!! This narrator has no concept of inflections or that every sentence is NOT a question!! Also he is NOT Harry Bosch. UGH!!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, couldn't take the narrator all in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
I love Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch. I will read any other of these books narrated by Peter Giles or miss them altogether!!
