With Fred ready to give birth and the revelation that Mary is also pregnant, spirits are high in the community. For Morgan, however, it's just one more thing to worry about. His mom and dad are now settled in and getting to work, but the babies are coming, the milking barn needs to be built, and the power plant must be kept running. To make matters worse, they're now dealing with the US Army. Morgan has real concerns once he hears about the Army's plans and what they expect of the people of Lake County. After more than a year without the rule of law, are the people ready to return to it?

Good book but
Revisado: 05-01-24
Lots of spoilers: You can tell this isn’t written by A. American too many of the characters personalities have changed and not for the good. Sarg and crew never cared that Morgan and crew are civilians and the phrase “f-ucking civilians” gets overused and it’s Sarg of past books. Morgan in this series has forgotten all the military info he knew in previous books,
Bringing back Tabor again in this book is stupid, even IF he could’ve survived Sarg smothering him he was crushed and wouldn’t be walking around. In this book Sarg states he strangled Tabor when he smothered him and Morgan was there when he did it & yet in this book Morgan wasn’t there?
Also since when is Little Bit a brat and Taylor a girly girl?!? Taylor was the one all about guns when Morgan first let them have their own weapons and they would never forget them.
Fred also we t on a raiding party and was almost raped and yet in this story she never left the camp or went on the raids with Eric??? That is one of the main reason her and him are close as he saved her from being ra$ed. Speaking of Eric after his injury he pulled his own weight and now all of a sudden because Fred is pregnant he suddenly hasn’t being “pulling” his weight with the group?!?
The first 10 books were really good but these last 2 leave much to be desired. I will say if you’re gonna have someone else finish the series please make them listen/read the first 10 books so they know what is going on.
My final thoughts on this book is IF A. American wrote it he needs to go back and re-read the first 10 books to remind himself of where the story is and who the characters are. But in all honesty I think he’s got a ghost writer at this point. If the stories are gonna continue to be so disjointed maybe it’s better to let it end then to keep slaughtering the story. Which is a shame as this was one of my favorite series and I couldn’t wait till the next book came out. However now each of the last 2 books are so disappointing as they differ so much from the first 10.

Good story but…
Revisado: 10-04-22
I have a lot of issues with the ending, so many deaths that didn’t have to happen. Jake & Brodies deaths made no sense & it seems like that & the loosing of Grayson’s home was more of a last minute thought to bring tragedy into the story & force Grayson & his group to leave home. Both Grayson & Jake had rifles with scopes & could’ve easily stopped Dante, but instead they let him burn the house down among other things. It makes no sense whatsoever that Grayson, who up until till this point was all about killing the bad guys all of a sudden he hesitates?? Now he acts like he can’t kill this guy that he knows is holding his family hostage, come on. This whole story was good up until this point and then the ending was just like oh I’m gonna make something tragic happened and I force Grayson and his group to leave. I’m sure there several different ways she could have made Grayson’s group leave rather than having Jake and Brody die. No matter how many times I have listen to this, trying to understand why Grayson, didn’t take action. Knowing his family is in danger and their guns in the hands of the bad guys, but yet he lets them all live when he could’ve clearly killed any of them but instead he hesitates?? Then Jake goes running in there instead of one of them taking a gun and shooting Dante?? Really that’s the best you can do??

Too much product name dropping, weird inserts of religious stuff.
Also when they have an opportunity to kill a bad guy (they had him dead to rights) they let him go only to decide they have to kill him like 2 minutes after he leaves which is BS as they could’ve killed him right on the spot as they had their weapons on the bad guy & his guards & could’ve easily killed them.
Think I’ll pass on the rest of the series as there’s just too much unbelievable BS & too much product name dropping for no reason.

Did A. American even write this??
Revisado: 07-05-22
Warning LOTS of spoilers:
Ok talk all characters in the series and change practically EVERYTHING about them and forget all you knew about the characters, story line established in all other the books and then listen to this one and you’ll be fine. However, if you’re listening to the whole series at once this book is SO far outta place it’s crazy.
Some how a family moves in along the route to town, without Morgan’s group knowing & one of them expertly shoots & kills Perez with a head shot while he’s in a moving vehicle?!? Not a lucky shot either total BS.
Outside of small inconsistency of errors all throughout the book there are some major ones as well.
Characters that were killed off in Book 9 are now back alive in this book? The DHS was eliminated in book 9, Sarge suffocated Charles Tabor while he was trapped in a building they bombed. Even Neagatta who was killed is brought back from the dead now too??
Mel went from wanting to stay out of the fighting & not knowing about guns to now all of a sudden she’s knows all about guns & has been shooting for years. Not to mention she swears like a sailor when before she always getting onto the guys for swearing especially in front of the kids. Her whole personality in this book is so off compared to the rest of the series, it’s like she’s a totally different character.
Then we’ve got Mary, she was always afraid of guns is now all about guns? Wanting to carry and get in with the shooting? Little Bit had her .22 and was good at shooting (anyone remember all her trophy tails from the squirrels she killed?)
Next we’ve got Dalton who all of a sudden hates people & everyone is now afraid of him?? Come on they’ve been together for a long time & out of no where even Sarge is afraid of him?? Come on this is so inconsistent with the last couple books.
Morgan who has always been justice in the street is now all about trials & public displays of punishment? Sarge who was the voice of reason & trying to get things back to normal is now all about justice in the street? SMH
They take a bunch of firearms from the FEMA camp and from the other attacks/raids they made and yet Morgan acts like he doesn’t know what kind of firearms & ammo they have. All of a sudden they now have of a stock pile of clothes and boots too?? When it’s never been mentioned before.
I wanted to love this story just like the rest of the series but it’s hard to when it’s so inconsistent with the rest of the series. The consistency even in this book is all over the place in one part for example Little Bit goes to bed while they are watching movies and it talks how they change what they are watching because she’s in bed now. Then not 2 sentences later it talks about how she feel asleep, as if she’s still right there with them?
If this is how the stories are now going to go, I think I’ll leave this series behind as it’s such a let down of how far off the book got from the original series/story. Which is a shame as I really enjoyed each story and seeing how Morgan and crew survive and handle the next challenge.
This can’t be written by A. American, it’s like he gave a list of characters to a ghost writer as well as a cliff notes info about the series & left them to write the book. Then at the ending it’s like ok I’ve hit my word count so time to end this book, with cliff hangers, which I don’t mind but there are too many story parts left wide open.

Lorein journey continunes for one hell of a ride
Revisado: 03-05-18
What made the experience of listening to This We Will Defend: The Continuing Story of a Family's Survival the most enjoyable?
I love that Kevin Pierce did this story he did an awesome job once again in bringing the characters to life. As he reads the story he pulls you into it and paints such a great picture of what is going on that you almost see it as if your watching a movie rather then listening to a book.
What did you like best about this story?
I love that Chad wrote such a strong young female character and the shows the bond she has with her father through thick and thin, bad times and good. Also a father that treated his daughter with respect and not
What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kevin pulls you into the story and makes you care about the characters in the story, you have no problem knowing which character is speaking as the story goes on.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
One family's journey to survive in a world that went to hell.
Any additional comments?
I like that in this story we get a bit of a background on a lot of the central characters. We also see how all the things that Lauren learned with her dad before the collapse and her dad not only taught her all he knew about surviving but he has other people he knows to train her and give her the skills she needed to not only fight but to survive in a world were it is survival of the fittest and were only the strong will survive outside the DHS camps.

Historia
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Great Story With a Strong Female Lead
Revisado: 03-02-18
Lauren is a young girl who's father is doing all he can to prepare her for a massive change to her world. He clearly sees the writing on the wall and knows that one day soon the SHTF and the world in which they live in will come to an end. So he tries to prepare his daughter for that new world by teaching her at a very young age to survive in the outdoors and even teaching her things that most fathers wouldn't even dream of teaching their little girls. Teaching her all he can and what he can't teach her he takes her to friends to get the training she needs to not only survive in that world but thrive.
He makes sure she knows everything from firearm safety, to shooting a target to dealing with an active shooter in her neighborhood. She does so well at this at the tender age of 16 that she even impresses a group of military guys at how well she handles herself and her firearm. So much so that they help further her training and she becomes a fast learner and excels in all she sits her mind to do.
Kevin Pierce does a great job at bringing C.A.'s characters to life and draws you into the story where you don't want to stop listening to it. Honestly, I'm writing this review after listening to this series for the 2nd time as the first time I was so draw into the story that I didn't want to stop listening to it just to write the reviews. The pictures in my head that Kevin paints by reading this story helps me see it all take place in my head as if I was watching a movie instead of just listening to a book.

What he wasn't prepared for was his family not being home if it ever happened. Olivia Rowan is with her sisters, Gabby and Emma, on a girls-only trip to Myrtle Beach. Graysie Rowan, a freshman at university, just wants to go home.

Great SHTF book (warning spoilers)
Revisado: 10-27-17
I really liked this book, actually listened to it twice already just because it is that good. If you like One Second After and The Going Home series then definitely pick this one up and give it a listen it is well worth the credit. My only complaint, was that it was just too short...even though the author said it was 300 pages...lol.
Kevin Pierce's narration was right on the money, I could easily tell who was speaking instead of always guessing (like a few other books I've listened too).
I love that in this book you have preppers, nonpreppers and even some of those that do prep but don't really believe in what they are doing. I also love that I could really see somethings that happen in this book happening in a real life scenario.
The scenarios with the 3 sisters I could totally see happening in real life, you've got the one sister that's married to a hard core prepper but IMO she doesn't really believe in it. Then you have a sister that is always a peace maker stepping in between her 2 sisters to keep them from fighting. The 3rd sister is one that believe's in prepping and even goes so far as to learn to shoot but that's as far as she goes she leaves everything else up to her husband.
I also enjoyed that Grayson is a prepper but he also knows he can't go at it alone so he has convinced his family and extended family, although some are reluctant, to prep some go for it completely while others take a more passive route. I also like that he teaches the women in his family to "fight like a man" don't just think like one but fight like one. The fact that he took time to prep for his daughter, Graysie while she was away at college, giving her all that she needs to get home. The letter he left her I could almost see my dad writing to me stating that for just once to believe her old man and do what he says to do and get home as soon as possible.
As this book progresses I could clearly see some of the events that unfolded happen in a real life situation if something would happen. Where things start falling apart quickly in some areas where as in other areas things fall apart slowly. Some people resorting to violence right from the get go whereas others go a more passive route and lets others do the 'work' for them. There some scenes in the book that I can totally see happening once law and order has been removed from society and the ability to call 9-11 is eliminated that some people can and will resort to violence in all sorts of ways and deciding that right is might.
It also shows that even though you can prep some one in your group can be not so bright and leave those preps at home. Even on a short trip those preps prove to be crucial and shouldn't be taken lightly, cause just about the time you remove something that you need from your car then that is a point in time will you will need it the most.
So if you like a good SHTF story pick this one up and give it a listen and learn about how Grayson taught the women in his life to Fight Like a Man and what that exactly means.

Revisado: 07-19-17
What made the experience of listening to Alpha Farm: The Beginning the most enjoyable?
Fast paced and lots of good info in it.
Would you be willing to try another book from Annie Berdel? Why or why not?
Not sure might give one more a try since this was a first book.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Not really she was hesitant and pretty much a monotone.
Any additional comments?
This is a decent enough book but the author needs to learn not to interrupt the story to push her website and other prepping websites. Adding the websites might work in a print book but is just distracting in the audio version and pulls the listener out of the story. If she wants to add it do so at the end of the book not smack dab in the middle of the story. The narrator also didn't help much either at times I couldn't tell if it was a male or female character talking. There are also too many gaps in the story. *Spoiler alert here* Example: Emma is out walking her farm with no firearm after she already encountered a wolf?? I don't think that someone as careful as she is would all of a sudden be without a gun after the SHTF?? Also just how did Senator Varga find her on a 300 acre farm?? How did anyone know Varga was gone too and know exactly where to find her?? Alone that same part of the story line when Emma and her husband was being attacked for so long just where was the rest of the family and what happened to the people that was brought in after the SHTF?? Surely she just wouldn't turn them loose on her farm so fast without any vetting or asking questions. Yes I know she said they had empty cabins but she's just gonna turn one over without any questions as to who the new people are? Too many gaps in the story to allow it to flow evenly.

Unsatisfying
Revisado: 10-20-16
What disappointed you about The Sin Eater's Daughter?
The story was going along well, although a few questionable scenes, when it just came to an abrupt end. Then in the prologue the sin eater's daughter is in another place alone? What happened to get her there is unknown, what happened to the man that betrayed her? Unknown...what happen to the prince she was supposed to marry? Unknown. Someone knocks on her door in the prologue do we know who it is or why they have come? No the story just ends...too many unanswered questions on what could've been a good story.
As well as there being too many scenes that just didn't make sense whatsoever, the king and queen where protective of her and then all of a sudden she could be alone with just one guard?? I don't know about anyone else but since when does a queen do research into matters of crimes against them?? She had guards a plenty but not one of them looks into any of the so called crimes that the queen claims they committed??
Again this story just made no sense in too many places as well as no logical conclusion to the story or onto the prologue that just seemed to be tossed in as an after thought.
Would you ever listen to anything by Melinda Salisbury again?
No
Have you listened to any of Amy Shiels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I haven't listened to her before.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No, it didn't the story just left too many unanswered questions and too many times things just didn't make any sense whatsoever.
