Amazingly Insightful
Revisado: 02-17-25
This book was so interesting and insightful. I look at the world and at the United States very differently after reading/listening to “How Nations Fail”. I can’t recommend this book enough. It is a total home run and it would be wonderful if it was required study in every high school across the country.
The book isn’t specific to any particular country or any particular point in time. The authors look across time and geography and draw insights around what has unfolded throughout history. And their observations continue to unfold from China to the Americas to Europe, Africa and India.
If you want to understand the world, read this book.

Historia
Fugitive Colors is a gripping debut novel of an artist's indomitable vengeance after World War II. Julian Klein, a young American artist, rebels against his religious upbringing and is eager for the artistic freedom of 1930s Paris. He flees Chicago only to find himself consumed by a world in which a paintbrush is far more lethal than a gun. An artist turned spy, Julian at the same time competes with jealous inferior artists who feverishly attempt to destroy those with true talent.

Powerful, intelligent and insightful
Revisado: 01-05-25
This story is an extremely well crafted narrative that conveys a complex history of powerful dramas. It evokes real emotions, both in the reader and those which existed in people who have been lost by the passage of time.
The broad strokes of the story are not surprising but they become tremendously powerful due to the details which support, enhance and expand the richness of the narrative. The story conveys the depth of the complex suffering caused by the mass abuse of power. But it also conveys individual determination, ingenuity and courage.
I really enjoyed the journey and appreciated the opportunity afforded by the creativity involved.

An amazing book that is extremely well written. You've watched the tip of the iceberg over the last four plus years. Now, read about the real events and possibilities, risks and opportunities. If you want to better understand the world, the people who have an outsized influence over events and the implications of what happens and what doesn't happen, start here. This is just an amazing account of so much that you don't know but that you will be excited to learn about.

When the government decides to spend money, it simply creates the necessary funds for itself - as if out of thin air. That's how we pay for interstate highways, post offices, wars, social services, and economic stimulus packages. If it's that easy to make money...can't we all get more of it? Absolutely. And we should. So argue financial regulation expert Robert Hockett and best-selling philosopher Aaron James in this eye-opening, irreverent, and inspiring exploration of what the dollar really is. And better still, they show how we can build an economy that works for everybody.

Absolutely worth knowing

Not everyone will agree with what is contained here but ignorance is dangerous. We have clearly been slowly evolving in the direction this book advocates and COVID forced the country to implement aspects of these recommendations. We will be debating this book for the foreseeable future, probably not fully understanding the opportunities and the risks. If you are interested in being informed, this is the place to start. A truly transformational book.

Historia
Local weather reporter Suzanne Maretto craves nothing more than to transcend life at her suburban cable television news station and follow in the footsteps of her idol: Barbara Walters. When she concludes that her unglamorous husband is getting in the way of her dream of stardom, the solution seems obvious: Get rid of him. She seduces a 15-year-old admirer, Jimmy, and persuades him to do her dirty work. Mission accomplished, Suzanne takes to the airwaves in her new role as grieving widow, in search of a TV deal. If that means selling Jimmy down the river, she’s ready.

A newspaper article, very disappointing
Revisado: 03-03-24
There was nothing to like here. The characters aren’t interesting or well developed. The writing is juvenile. This is the Pamela Smart story poorly reported. I doubt the author did more than follow the story in the news and then reformat the news reports into am book format. If you are curious, go to Wikipedia.

Just a fun read, introducing interesting people and a complex story. There are characters worth thinking about and lessons worth considering. Not rocket science nor historically insightful but that was never part of the genre. Just a great novel for fun, enjoyment and enrichment.

Better than a story
Revisado: 12-12-23
This one is certainly up to the exceptional Eisner standards but the real question is the degree of non-fiction described in the story. There is, obviously, a lot of historical fact that has been used to build the story. But where does history stop and fiction take over. And maybe the answer doesn’t matter because there is just too much truth to what has been written.

Hero continually escapes impossible challenges. Nice story as long as you like fantasies and not just the improbable but the impossible. Author needs to find someone who can craft a plausible storyline that he could then elaborate on.
