Historia
The year is 1970. Emma Gable, a blind teenager coming of age in a small industrial town in Western New York, is about as far from the seismic cultural transformations rocking campuses and city streets across America as a person can get. Emma escapes the chaos of her dysfunctional family by dialing up random numbers on the phone in her bedroom, just to see who'll answer.

Enjoyed. Starts slow, gets better.

Enjoyed. Starts slow, gets better. The storyline was good. But the part of the story with the dad was completely unnecessary to the story. No idea why it was there.
Otherwise fun adventure about early phone technology and issues from 1970.

My name's Griz. I've never been to school, I've never had friends, and in my whole life I've not met enough people to play a game of football. My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, before all the people went away. But we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other and our dogs. Then the thief came.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Historia
Every life reaches that crucial intersection, the place where you must choose your fate, or have it chosen for you. For best-selling author Rich Cohen (The Fish That Ate the Whale, The Last Pirate of New York), it came in a writing workshop senior year in college, when, at 17, he had to knuckle under to a ruthless professor or make a righteous, self-defeating stand.

Historia
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

Fun way to learn the myths as stories
Revisado: 10-05-20
Tells the myths in an amusing story form. As many books on the subject are dry, explain the human condition and meanings or morals of the story. He cites books and encourages further learning. But it's an excellent summary of many Greek myths. I had never known the full story of Gaia and how each Olympian was born. Now I do. The family tree is hard to keep track of but fascinating.

Enjoyable. The ending doesn't seem to match the myths but the rest goes with the mythology of Greece as I know it.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Poignant. Detailed. Strength of humanity.
Revisado: 09-03-20
As a survivor stated he was thankful for the book to understand why some of his shipmates that survived the sinking failed to keep fighting to survive. The explanations of what the sea does to someone is frightening. A strong will is only a factor. The physical toll was intense. The reader is left humbled. The how of why she sunk and the foght for her Captain were well told too. If you are a military history buff, this is a must read.
