I thought PK to be intelligent but parts of the story I thought somewhat phoney. I was frustrated to hear an intelligent person resisting change and know that he was resisting. After all, he was the one wanting change.

Historia
In 1973, Norma Cobb, her husband Lester, and their five children pulled up stakes in the lower 48 and headed north to Alaska to follow a pioneer dream of claiming land under the Homestead Act. The only land available lay north of Fairbanks near the Arctic Circle where grizzlies outnumbered humans 20 to one. In addition to fierce winters and predatory animals, the Alaskan frontier drew the more unsavory elements of society's fringes. From the beginning, the Cobbs found themselves pitted in a life or death feud with unscrupulous neighbors who would rob from new settlers.

Religious judgement of all others outside of family
Revisado: 02-12-25
I didn't like the aggressive tone of the reader. I know I would be able to live there being I lived in Alaska 2 years but I felt the writer was undeserving in her description of all other people. I thought from her tone that she had deep issues with men. I thought Les to be very agreeable to this woman, herself, battling men in her mind. I would have left her behind.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Interesting
Revisado: 10-27-24
He covers a lot of topics that he blends into a relationship of the outer limits of space to the sub-microscopic space of everyday life. I found it a refreshing narrative of many things I already knew and much that I didn't. Good book and good writing.

Historia
Levitt and co-author Stephen J. Dubner show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives: how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing. In Freakonomics, they explore the hidden side of...well, everything. The inner working of a crack gang...the truth about real-estate agents...the secrets of the Klu Klux Klan. What unites all these stories is a belief that the modern world is even more intriguing than we think. All it takes is a new way of looking, and Freakonomics will redefine the way we view the modern world.

Different
Revisado: 10-16-24
The book focused on unusual ways of interpreting statistics as well as including conventional ways of looking at things. I found that the verification of the writers credentials and of others work frustrating to listen to as if pieces of paper justified their findings.

Historia
These incredible memoirs began in 1899 by 15-year-old Gaither Stevens soon after he joined the Navy as an Apprentice Boy. It was a different world and a different Navy. His extraordinary experiences were captured in a typed manuscript kept safe and unpublished until now. In these writings, you’ll find adventures of a lifetime highlighting encounters with a grizzly bear, bar fights, a train robbery, murder, boxing, fiestas, abduction as a sex slave, turtle races, wild shipmates, an Eskimo prostitute, and other savory scenes. Gaither’s chronicles of fellow “blue-jackets” and places he...

Historia
November 1944: Army airmen set out in a B-24 bomber on what should have been an easy mission off the Borneo coast. Instead they found themselves unexpectedly facing a Japanese fleet: and were shot down. When they cut themselves loose from their parachutes, they were scattered across the island's mountainous interior. Then a group of loincloth-wearing natives silently materialized out of the jungle. Would these Dayak tribesmen turn the starving airmen over to the hostile Japanese occupiers?

Mediocre Story
Revisado: 09-24-24
This is not a very good story. In fact, I thought the writing and story was mediocre. There is a good story here but by the time the author put in all the filler, it left me hurrying to the end. It just didn't bring me into the tale

Historia
The Second World Wars examines how combat unfolded in the air, at sea, and on land to show how distinct conflicts among disparate combatants coalesced into one interconnected global war. Drawing on 3,000 years of military history, Victor Davis Hanson argues that despite its novel industrial barbarity, neither the war's origins nor its geography were unusual. Nor was its ultimate outcome surprising. The Axis powers were well prepared to win limited border conflicts, but once they blundered into global war, they had no hope of victory.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.
