Good story, terrible narration

The narration is so bad I found myself counting the syllables between pauses. Totally flat, no emotion, really awful. Next time, pay a human narrator.

Well researched history, complex characters

Not the usual white-washed regency tale. The gritty reality of the time is hinted at, without becoming gruesomely violent,. The family relationships, power struggles, pettiness, and spite of jealous brothers who control the lives of unwed sisters is brought to the fore with talent and realism. You won't want to put this book down. I hope the next one is coming soon.

Even Better Than Book 1

Adding magic to the traditional post-WW1 era genre creates a fresh and interesting story with believable characters. I'm looking forward to Book 3 and I hope there will be more coming.

Nailed It!

This trilogy presents 3 characters sent on a search-rescue-recovery mission to find a crashed alien vessel and retrieve it's 3 passengers & gear before the humans discover the crash- a simple sounding mission, since the crash site is somewhat isolated, deep in the Georgia woodlands, Unfortunately, the sleepy town nearby is Nocturne Falls where the unusual is normal, and Halloween is celebrated every day.
Fans of Kristin Painter's series, Nocturne Falls will love the accurately portrayed characters we know and love. Sheriff Marrow, his wife Ivy, son Charlie and sister Bridget as well as Jane Frost, Hugh & Delaney Ellingham, Nick Hardman, Pandora and Corette Williams, and even Spider the talking cat are among the many residents who play their parts in making this a delightful and entertaining story.
Along the way, we meet new characters who complicate the mission, as our intrepid team from Alien, Arkansas find their targets and discover love and romance.
Each team member's tale is revealed in a different story, all artfully woven together by the mission itself.

Excellent writing, great characters, very graphic

The subject matter is extremely graphic and disturbing. However, the writing is excellent. The story is gripping. The characters are realistic and very well written. Not for fans of cozy mysteries.

Charming

The characters are likeable. The plot is interesting and, at times, laugh out loud funny. Although the first book in the series is good, this one is even better .

Not Agatha Christie

Detective Catchpole is a sniveling, whiny, cowardly character who would never be promoted into Scotland Yard. The author tries to excuse Catchpole by saying that he is a rookie. Catchpole becomes so emotionally distraught by the sight of the body that he can not even remain at the crime scene. I kept listening, hoping the character would get better. This was a waste of both time and a credit.

Friends survive difficult, traumatic times with no sugar coating the war and it's impact on those left at home. Very balanced highs and lows. Fun connections with the royal family.

Pride & Prejudice Meets Much Ado About Nothing

If you persevere through the contrived scheming at the start of the story, you will be richly rewarded by laugh out loud scenes. Pure romantic comedy.
