Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

I really enjoyed the listen and learned a great deal, but ending with the departure of Diamond Dave seemed to leave a lot of history unexplored.

Historia
Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

What the... where's the ending?
Revisado: 04-01-25
I love Sandford and really enjoy all the books with Lucas and Virgil, together or not, but this one bombed because of the ending. Sorry to spoil but there isn't one. If I had the hardcover I'd have thrown it across the room...

Historia
Every year, Jess and Storey have made an annual pilgrimage to the most remote corners of the country, where they camp, hunt, and hike, leaving much from their long friendship unspoken. Although the state of Maine has convulsed all summer with secession mania—a mania that has simultaneously spread across other states—Jess and Storey figure it’s a fight reserved for legislators or, worst-case scenario, folks in the capital. But after weeks hunting off the grid, the men reach a small town and are shocked by what they find.

Abrupt ending
Revisado: 02-14-25
It was an interesting story, but dealt more with internal struggles and feelings. The ending was perhaps the most abrupt I've ever heard. Do not expect resolution.

Historia
In the summer of 1982, eight science fiction films were released within six weeks of one another. E.T., Tron, Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, Conan the Barbarian, Blade Runner, Poltergeist, The Thing, and Mad Max: The Road Warrior changed the careers of some of Hollywood's now biggest names―altering the art of movie-making to this day.

Revisado: 10-11-24
Author did a great job sharing the backstory of the sci-fi summer of 1982. He didn't belabor anything, and had good insights into everything he discussed. If you're a movie fan you'll enjoy this. Narrator was great, too.

Historia
The story of how The Godfather was made is as dramatic, operatic, and entertaining as the film itself. Over the years, many versions of various aspects of the movie’s fiery creation have been told - sometimes conflicting, but always compelling. Mark Seal sifts through the evidence, has extensive new conversations with director Francis Ford Coppola and several heretofore silent sources, and complements them with colorful interviews with key players including actors Al Pacino, James Caan, Talia Shire, and others.

Fantastic listen
Revisado: 10-03-24
I'm more a fan of Hollywood history than The Godfather, and this book tells the backstory on that particular classic incredibly well. The writing was great, as were the quotes, and the narrator was fantastic. This book is additional proof that it's a miracle any movie ever gets made, much less a great movie. So much raging egotism...

Historia
For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Terrifying yet educative
Revisado: 09-05-24
I was blown away by how well the author made his case. The fragility of our interconnected world economy has been obvious for years. (We don't realize or respect how important the US military presence is globally like we should...) And it's also been ignored way too long. I appreciate his optimism for America, and am saddened at the suffering in store for billions over the next few decades. Will mankind figure it out since it's already too late?

Really stuck the landing
Revisado: 05-08-24
Excellent end to an excellent trilogy. The plot was swift and the last several chapters Winslow dispensed with the fluff and stuck to the action. It was a great choice. If you enjoy Winslow and gritty crime drama, you'll appreciate this book.

Historia
Gaia is dying. That, at least, is what Dr. Lionel Scott believes. A renowned expert in tropical and infectious diseases, Scott has witnessed the devastating impact of illness and turmoil at critical scale. Society as it exists is untenable, and the direct link to Earth’s death spiral; population levels are out of control and people have allowed disarray and disorder to run rampant. While most are concerned about deadly disease, Scott knows that it is truly humanity itself that will destroy Gaia.

Sanford delivers
Revisado: 04-15-24
If you like Sandford, you won't be disappointed. The plot in this one maintained great momentum throughout. Truly a scary premise if you acknowledge how realistic it is. I honestly thought he'd write more to wrap things up, but that's okay. An afterword would also have been interesting.

Historia
It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.

What's the big deal?
Revisado: 02-10-24
Not impressed, and no clue what the positive reviews are talking about. This was slow, often boring, and all build up with zero payoff. It spent so much time on character development it forgot to be scary or suspenseful. If you like a book with zero explanations but a lot of exposition, by all means, have at it.
