Acerca de esta escucha

Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers join forces to track down a ruthless killer who will do whatever it takes to keep the past buried, in this latest thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford.

Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

Twenty years later, Lara has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Confronted with the possibility of her own death, she’s determined to find Doris’s killer once and for all. Finally taking matters into her own hands, she dumps the entire investigative file on every true crime site in the world and offers a $5 million reward for information leading to the killer’s arrest. Dozens of true crime bloggers show up looking for both new evidence and “clicks,” and Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers are called in to review anything that might be a new lead.

When one of the bloggers locates the murder weapon, Lucas and Virgil begin to uncover vital details about the killer’s identity. But what they don’t know is the killer lurks in plain sight, and with the true crime bloggers blasting every clue online, the killer can keep one step ahead. As the nation maneuvers the detectives closer to the truth, Lucas and Virgil will find that digging up Doris’s harrowing past might just get them buried instead.

Richard Ferrone is a hard act to follow

Richard Ferrone is a hard act to follow. Sadly, the story was not strong enough to overcome Robert Petkoff’s performance.

An Interesting Concept to Capturing a Killer

There is no resolution. The story ends abruptly, so unless there is a sequel, we’re left not knowing the outcome.

Ending?

Good book. Enjoyed the chase, watching them piece it together. Totally disappointing ending though. I thought someone would shoot her..,Lucas, Virgil. Thought maybe the sister’s cancer came back, she knew she didn’t have long, nothing to lose so she figured what the hell. I have read every one of the Prey books and was so looking forward to this. Good book disappointing ending though

Best book yet in the Prey series!

Great story and wonderful humor. Loved it. Because of the ending, I am guessing there will be a follow up novel next.

I miss Richard Ferrone!

The book is excellent, as expected by John Sanford, and I am aware that Richard Ferrone died in 2022, ending one of the best author/narrator pairings in my lifetime. Richard had the voice of Lucas Davenport, sounding big, vain, tough and protective, and that persona was missing for me in this book. I LOVE Eric Conger as Virgil, and so much of this book is Virgil that I wonder why Eric Conger wasn’t narrating. After so long of a history the narrator’s voices become the personality of the literary character.

A Hung Ending

This was a fun book and well narrated. The twists and turns keep it interesting throughout. The use of bloggers was cool and seemed like something that would be done today. Virgil and Lucas both played to their strengths and all characters had some level of involvement. Using the way the story ended, I score this as a story with a hung ending.

What???

Loved the story but what is this, a setup for part 2? Left with my jaw dropped.

Excellent

Just the right pace. I wanted the ending to be different though. Lucas and Virgil were perfectly voiced. The ending left something to be desired though

Davenport and Flowers together again!!!!

The new voice guy is no Richard Ferrone, but he displayed great depth and range with the characters voices. There were small things that threw me off. Like how do you hide a whole body under a 2 seat Jaguar, they usually sit pretty low. But nonetheless. Great detective work without the John Wick shootouts. Good storyline. Good listen. I enjoyed this one.

Disappointing ending

I have listened to all of John Sanfords. Other than a disappointing ending, this book is another great listen. Hopefully his next book will address this book's ending.
