Pip is not a detective anymore. With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her. But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh.

Edge of your seat storytelling
Revisado: 03-23-25
This was an excellent follow up to the first book. At times I felt so anxious for the characters I could hardly stand it. Holly Jackson perfectly nails storytelling- pairing vivid descriptions with action pacing structure that neither forces the plot nor drags on. The narrator and voice cast for this audio were all amazing too.

Historia
"How would you feel if I offered a separated soul a body of life and a place with us?" God has asked a strange question. How will the citizens of heaven reply? You are about to witness the greatest debate in history. In this novella, you join the citizens of heaven as they decide whether to extend mercy to a citizen of hell. Moses builds a case for eternal judgment, and Adam builds a case for hope. The dialogue climaxes in a surprising revelation about the roots of evil and the purpose of life for all kingly creatures. Is hell everlasting, or could every soul come into heaven eventually? ...

Love the ideals and images within the book
Revisado: 06-16-24
My wife and I listened to this together and we really enjoyed it. I’ve been considering universalism more lately and this book gave me some new ideals to consider. The images in heaven made us smile and feel joy. This book does a good job showing all things are possible for God.

Historia
Following the events in Network Effect, the Barish-Estranza corporation has sent rescue ships to a newly colonized planet in peril, as well as additional SecUnits. But if there's an ethical corporation out there, Murderbot has yet to find it, and if Barish-Estranza can't have the planet, they're sure as hell not leaving without something. If that something just happens to be an entire colony of humans, well, a free workforce is a decent runner-up prize. But there's something wrong with Murderbot; it isn't running within normal operational parameters.

I feel like in this book we see SecUnit grow the most human-like. My only complaint is that if you listen to the books in order of publication the beginning of this one is confusing.

Historia
When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people - who knew?). Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans! Again!

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Captures the human experience in an unexpected way
Revisado: 01-13-24
This book had a slow start. The way it is written and read comes suits the main character perfectly. However, initially it felt stilted and emotionless. I think that is the genius of the book though. You’re first presented to a not quite human character that on the surface is a robot and treated as one. But, the character has so many attributes many people would relate to. I now can’t wait to read book 2!

An Agatha Christie classic
Revisado: 01-01-24
The goal with any good mystery is to solve it before the author tells you. Unfortunately with Agatha Christie novels I don’t always succeed. I thought I knew who the villain was in this book but was very wrong. This novel is 100 years old yet the complex character relationships feel as relatable as anything modern. I prefer her stand alone Vogel’s to her series. The 2 narrators did an excellent job making the story come alive.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 12-28-23
At first I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this book. It seemed to drag on to the point of being too long. However, the length gave time to develop some side plots that were moving. I really appreciate Balogh addressing things like childbirth and death in this novel. She does an excellent job validating women and highlighting the importance of love beyond romantic.

Historia
Kate Hibbert is all too eager to lend a hand to her neighbors. Although she has been a resident of the sleepy village of Lochdubh for only a year, in that time Kate has alienated one too many of its residents with her interfering—and not entirely well-intentioned—ways. When Kate’s neighbor sees her lugging a heavy suitcase to the bus stop, he hopes that the prying woman is gone for good. But two weeks later, Kate’s cousin arrives in town with the news that Kate has gone missing.

Historia
The Navajo tribe's forced march from their homeland to Fort Sumner by white soldiers and settlers is dramatically and courageously told by young Bright Morning. Bright Morning was happy as she gazed across the beautiful valley that was the home of her tribe. She turned when Black Dog barked, and it was then that she saw the Spanish slavers riding straight toward her.

A heartbreaking read
Revisado: 12-07-23
This was a moving story and heartbreaking. It was a challenge to teach 8th graders and I would not recommend it for a younger audience. I do think it is a book everyone should read at least once in their lifetime though. Scott O’Dell has a wonderful way of bringing stories to life. Linda Stephen’s narrates well but at such a slow pace it made me sleepy at times.
