Historia
You are reading the word now right now. But what does that mean? What makes the ephemeral moment "now" so special? Its enigmatic character has bedeviled philosophers, priests, and modern-day physicists from Augustine to Einstein and beyond. Einstein showed that the flow of time is affected by both velocity and gravity, yet he despaired at his failure to explain the meaning of now. Equally puzzling: Why does time flow? Some physicists have given up trying to understand and call the flow of time an illusion.

Not to the point
Revisado: 03-26-18
This books contains a lot of cliches on Schrödinger’s, history of general relativity and so on, but it’s full of unnecessary quotations from philosophers, that serves to nothing but to remind you that there are indeed serious philosophers (you might forget about that while reading this book). A text book example of what can go wrong when one amateur tries to dwell on profound question on the heart of the philosophy of science and mathematics.

Historia
Ellenberg chases mathematical threads through a vast range of time and space, from the everyday to the cosmic, encountering, among other things, baseball, Reaganomics, daring lottery schemes, Voltaire, the replicability crisis in psychology, Italian Renaissance painting, artificial languages, the development of non-Euclidean geometry, the coming obesity apocalypse, Antonin Scalia's views on crime and punishment, the psychology of slime molds, what Facebook can and can't figure out about you, and the existence of God.

Beautifully written and fun!
Revisado: 01-10-18
First I should say that I’m a mathematician, so I might be suspect. Ellenberg’s book gives some tools to use mathematical knowledge and become a bit less stupid. I also learn a bit more math and that’s really impressive for a book aimed at general audience.
As to the performance, Ellenberg is no professional narrator, that’s for sure, and it’s a bit tiresome to hear a non professional speak for 10 hours. But the sensation of talking to the author and the music tones effects in the middle of the text kind of balances that.
Additional points for mentioning the work of Olivia Caramel!

Historia

An absolute classic of fantasy
Revisado: 03-02-17
Wether or not the Wheel of Time is a series worthy reading, I am yet to find out, but I already can state that this is one of the greatest book on high fantasy I have ever read.
One could argue the work is very derivative of Tolkien's or that it employees the classic formula of Campbell's Hero's jorney. This critic certainly has a point, but that analysis is too narrow. The work is indeed very derivative. Nevertheless, Jordan's book outgrow this fertile ground and sprung a very unique symbiosis of eastern philosophy and western narratives.
