Revisado: 02-26-25
This series was a pleasure from start to finish. It was spectacular. I’m sad to leave the world of Kagan. However I know whatever Marberry brings next will be just as fab.

Historia
In 1912, at the height of World War I, brilliant Shakespeare expert Elizebeth Smith went to work for an eccentric tycoon on his estate outside Chicago. The tycoon had close ties to the US government, and he soon asked Elizebeth to apply her language skills to an exciting new venture: code breaking. There she met the man who would become her husband, groundbreaking cryptologist William Friedman. Though she and Friedman are in many ways the Adam and Eve of the NSA, Elizebeth's story, incredibly, has never been told.

Revisado: 05-17-23
Elizabeth was quite the person. Standing side by side with her husband, she did what no one else could-peel back the curtain to reveal the reality of the message.
She’s a true treasure and deserves so much more note in American History.

Historia
From his earliest memories of watching Rhoda with his parents in their tiny Hell’s Kitchen apartment, John knew that he wanted to be an actor. The strange, alternate world of television—where people always cracked the perfect joke, lived in glamorous Upper East Side buildings, and made up immediately after fighting—seemed far better than his own home life, with a mother and father on the brink of divorce and a neighborhood full of crumbling pre-war architecture and not-so-occasional muggings. And yet that other world also seems unattainable.

Vintage Kay
Revisado: 03-02-22
The characters are familiar but there’s a huge time gap between the last book in this one and Patricia Cornwell does an excellent job filling the void one onion layer at a time. Although the narrators performance is good that’s not how I hear Kay in my head so it was a little dissonant but I still enjoy the storyline.

Historia
In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan. This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

It’s been three months since Stark stopped a death cult and a potential ghost apocalypse, and he’s at loose ends. His personal life is a mess. His professional life isn’t much better. LA is gripped by a viral epidemic. But what’s even more frightening is the Shoggot gang and their leader, King Bullet, who revels in the city’s collapse. Who is King Bullet? No one knows. He seemingly came from nowhere with nothing but a taste for mayhem and an army of crazed killers who follow his every command.

Revisado: 01-05-20
Lori does a phenomenal job of telling her story and in doing so, others’ stories. Much like a therapy session, when the audio is over, there are still questions. But overall, she’s made one care more about oneself, if you’re open to it.

Historia
The first full-length biography of Fred Rogers, The Good Neighbor tells the story of this utterly unique and enduring American icon. Drawing on original interviews, oral histories, and archival documents, Maxwell King traces Rogers’s personal, professional, and artistic life through decades of work, including a surprising decision to walk away from the show to make television for adults, only to return to the neighborhood with increasingly sophisticated episodes, written in collaboration with experts on childhood development.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 08-30-19
Let me be clear, I love Mr. Rogers. However, the numerous references in the book to him being an only child was irritating. He had an adopted sister, thus, not an only child. Some of his behavior with colleagues was a bit disappointing, especially since it was explained as basically in the pursuit of perfection that's how he was. Well, I don't care who you are or how perfect you want something, even for the greater good, it doesn't give you the right to be mean. I couldn't even finish it. and I also love LeVar Burton and even that couldn't save it for me.

Craig Ferguson has defied the odds his entire life. He has failed when he should have succeeded and succeeded when he should have failed. The fact that he is neither dead nor in a locked facility (at the time of printing) is something of a miracle in itself. In Craig’s candid and revealing memoir, listeners will get a look into the mind and recollections of the unique and twisted Scottish American who became a national hero for pioneering the world’s first TV robot skeleton sidekick and reviving two dudes in a horse suit dancing as a form of entertainment.
