Historia
Some people bounce back in response to setbacks; others break. We often think that these responses are hardwired, but fortunately this is not the case. Stoicism offers us an alternative approach. Plumbing the wisdom of one of the most popular and successful schools of thought from ancient Rome, philosopher William B. Irvine teaches us to turn any challenge on its head. The Stoic Challenge, then, is the ultimate guide to improving your quality of life through tactics developed by ancient Stoics, from Marcus Aurelius and Seneca to Epictetus.

This novel biography brings Marcus Aurelius (121-180 CE) to life for a new generation by exploring the emperor’s fascinating psychological journey. Donald J. Robertson examines Marcus’s relationships with key figures in his life, such as his mother, Domitia Lucilla, and the emperor Hadrian, as well as his Stoic tutors. He draws extensively on Marcus’s own Meditations and correspondence, and he examines the emperor’s actions as detailed in the Augustan History and other ancient texts.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

A few good takeaways = worth it
Revisado: 12-11-23
There are a few good takeaways that make this book worth.
1. Chapter 7 alone makes the book worth a credit.
2. The Christian commentary and references to the Bible were well placed. The references are not overdone. Not offensive. Not dogmatic. I don’t agree with the negative reviews that found the commentary too minimal or distracting.
3. The author quickly and succinctly explains and highlights two points: invest in your son’s emotional education and develop habits in steps.
4. It’s a quick listen. The book makes a parent reevaluate your approach and adjust as needed.
5. I recommend this book even if you’re not experiencing very difficult issues with your son.
6. I give it 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because I will listen to some chapters 2 or 3 times. Take a few notes.

1. ). Useful content: expectations, pressure, preparation, etc.
2.). Numerous examples.
3.). A few chapters I repeated several times.
4.). The chapter Re expectations was worth the book price
5.). Narration was irritating. Robotic. Disappointing.
Regardless, Worth the money and time.
