Historia
My father called them messengers. He once told me they walked among us and that somewhere in this dark and godless city, there shined a faint sliver of hope. I had only to look for the signs. Well, I’ve spent my whole life investigating the inexplicable and all I've found are the unsettling vestiges of iniquity—the evidence of another world shrouded by the obscure. Purgatory to some, where depravity hides in shadows, and girls like me are little more than delicious bites of temptation. Others call it Nightshade.

Good Dark Romance.
Revisado: 04-29-25
This was a good smutty romance. It checked all the right boxes that make a book enjoyable. It had a good mix of plot and smut, with some darker play. Very enjoyable if this is something you’re into. You get multiple main character perspectives. The ending did feel a bit rushed but I know there’s a sequel/second half.
The audio book narrators were great. I always like when they split the male and female characters respectively.

Weeping but in love
Revisado: 04-22-25
This is by far my favorite book of the series. It is so good. However, it has left me completely broken and devastated. It is the saddest book of the series and idk if I have cried more while reading a book. But it was sooo good! You get to reconnect with some of the best characters in the series and discover ew stories and side to them. You see the epic scope of the main plot of the original trilogy. This is for sure one of my top 5 favorite books. Suzanne Collins feels there did beautifully with this message, this story and the series as a whole.
I really enjoyed this narrator and it meant so much that there was a melody/rhythm to the songs and poems in this book, as there wasn’t in the last book. (Although maybe that was a statement to the specific characters)

Historia
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

A good addition to the series
Revisado: 04-17-25
Again, I did not read this before seeing the movies. The movie was a great addition to what has been a longstanding favorite series of mine. The book was just as good if not better. You got just a bit more from this book than the movie. It’s interesting because in the movie you don’t get quite as much of Snow’s internal feelings and thoughts about his choices in the movie like we do in the book and I remember watching the movie and feeling empathy towards Snow but getting to hear his thoughts from the book, idk if I would have felt that same empathy had I read the book first. I do feel that the second half of the book dragged a bit but this could have been just because I did know the plot line. Regardless, these stories are so powerful and the messages that Suzanne Collins is trying to get across are especially important in today’s political climate. I am very excited to read the next one.
On the note of the narrator, I do think the fact that there are so many songs in this book, the fact that the narrator just spoke the lyrics really took away from the impact of those songs. This was my least favorite narrator of the books in this series.

Historia
Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding. It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans - except Katniss.

Loved these as munch as the movies.
Revisado: 04-08-25
Again, I did not read this before seeing the movies. The movies have been a longstanding favorite of mine but with the new books that came out I wanted to love the stories in another way. This being said, I do. The third book was fantastic. There was so much more complexity to this book than the movie. So much more insight to Katniss and her feelings and thoughts and choices than we get to experience in the movies. I was so enveloped in the story that even though I know the plot I forgot some very key points and was surprised. This story is so powerful and the messages that Suzanne Collins is trying to get across are especially important in today’s political climate. I can truly appreciate the original story now that I have read the books and I am excited for the next ones.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she’s afraid she cannot stop.

Revisado: 04-02-25
I did not read this before seeing the movies. The movies have been a longstanding favorite of mine but with the new books that came out I wanted to love the stories in another way. This being said, I do. The book was everything I could have hopes for. I loved understanding more of Katniss’s internal thoughts and struggles. And the extra context just helped me better understand all the characters.
I was a little hesitant about the narrator of the audio book, because her voice was so different than Jennifer Laurence’s, but I quickly got over that and she did a fantastic job with the characters. The only thing I would ask for was more. I know I haven’t read the other books yet and they may satisfy this want, but this story is so powerful and the messages that Suzanne Collins is trying to get across are especially so important in today’s political climate.

Least favorite of the series thus far
Revisado: 03-07-25
One of my favorite series. But the first book within the series that I wasn’t in complete awe of. Don’t get me wrong, it is still good and a lot of really important things happen, but it felt long, in not the best way. There was a point with about 2-3 hours left of the book where I was struggling to continue.
This is the first book of the series with more explicitly worded intimate scenes, still nothing more than more vague mentions but more than we have had previously.

Best book out of the first four
Revisado: 02-25-25
Fourth book into the series. I can appreciate the series more on the reread, especially certain characters and their POVs. The first time I read the series I couldn’t stand any time we had to listen to Manon, but knowing what I do now I am enjoying her more as a character.
This may be my favorite book of the series out of the first four. I feel that things are starting to ramp up and we have some of my favorite characters around now. This book also has some of the best character growth of the series, in my opinion. We learn so much about Celaena/Aelin that was unknown before now.
