Historia
Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

Rushed
Revisado: 05-06-25
Starts out as a classic John Sandford Prey novel. Then it starts to fizzle. Lots of unnecessary details on Frankie’s horses and riding. Virgil angsting about his novel. Davenport is half-assing the investigation. Jenkins and Shrake are a welcome throwback, but they disappear. Nobody seems that interested, even Virgil’s anger at the loss of his barn (no one calls a 2 stall barn with paddocks and turnouts a “stable”) and the injuries to Frankie and Sam peters out.
The HUGE event that should be Virgil’s marriage is a passing mention. The ending is a big middle finger to his fans. If there is going to be a part 2, please divulge that info.

Historia
High school wasn’t a grand time for everyone, but when a group of friends decide to meet up at a B and B ahead of their 10-year reunion, old grudges resurface, and one of them ends up dead. Now the owners, a kindly older couple, are on the hook for the accidental death due to anaphylaxis, but they insist no mistakes were made on their part. Fortune is asked to look into the situation before the inept local sheriff railroads the couple or simply allows gossip to run them out of business, which will cost them their home. Swamp Team 3 heads to Voodoo Island to find a way to clear the couple.

Best written of the whole series
Revisado: 12-10-24
While the author still did a lot “eyebrow acting” head nodding, waving a hand in dismissal, and having the protagonist and others mention how much more astute she was than non-former CIA assassins, rather than letting it be obvious, she seems to have reached more deeply into her craft to develop not just a fun, but a touching story.
An editor may have pointed out that the camel was completely unnecessary to the story, and getting it high was just odd.
As though two different stories were written and then smooshed together to make a deadline.

I was nobody. No matter how hard I tried, I never fit in with anyone at my high school. Now I know why. Turns out I'm a witch. A scary powerful one, too. Except The Coven that claimed me won't teach me how to use my magic. Suddenly, I'm selected by the Goddess to hunt down a mythical locket needed to save the world from destruction. The only person who actually tries to help me is the alarmingly attractive Tennessee. He has immeasurable power and breathtaking mismatched eyes. I'm drawn to him on a level I can't explain...and he's forbidden from getting too close to me.

Immaturity
Revisado: 06-24-24
This story is very much like a high school creative writing project. There’s a lot of sighing, gasping, and other soap opera reactions.
The chosen narrator definitely sounds like a high school girl, but her high school boy characters sound the same. If the writer hadn’t specifically written which character was speaking in first person , you wouldn’t know by the narrator’s voice or tone.
Overall I’m returning this title, which I tried because the entire series was offered for $4 or $5

Historia
Gaia is dying. That, at least, is what Dr. Lionel Scott believes. A renowned expert in tropical and infectious diseases, Scott has witnessed the devastating impact of illness and turmoil at critical scale. Society as it exists is untenable, and the direct link to Earth’s death spiral; population levels are out of control and people have allowed disarray and disorder to run rampant. While most are concerned about deadly disease, Scott knows that it is truly humanity itself that will destroy Gaia.

Thanos was right? Alternate Title
Revisado: 04-27-24
I really miss Richard Ferrone. Mr Petkoff does well, but he just isn’t the gravelly and gruff Lucas and they as may as well find a new narrator for Letty, because she just isn’t recognizable as the hard-core daughter we fell in love with when she was trapping muskrats.
As far as the story goes, Meh. “SPOILER ALERT” Basically this guy wants to kill off most earth’s human population w/ a virus to save “Gaia” (earth) from global warming, etc. I did keep waiting to see a “Thanos was Right” bumper sticker on Scott’s car.
The ‘breast cancer victim” stuff-well Mr Sandford did that in Extreme Prey when his would-be political bomber and grandmother in farm country shaves her head and disguises herself in the exact same way. And if he was going to use this again, at least Davenport could have acknowledged it in some way, “I’ve had that happen before,” or something.
Also, as a nurse, I’ve never heard these patient referred to as cancer victims by anyone but this author. They are usually breast cancer survivors or breast cancer patients, etc.
The way that the Davenport, Ray, Letty, and company shoot people and are then able to approach local cops just with their badges out and without letting them know in advance that it happened, or at least having the DHS Chick call and notify local law enforcement when they’re in the vicinity- it’s hard.
I think overall, I was just disappointed with this story. I miss Davenport hunting the way he used to hunt. I miss Letty’s edge. Hoping the next book will be back to Lucas’s roots somehow. Weather was barely mentioned in this one and with this being viral/medical, Lucas should have been on the phone w/ her a few times.
Mr Sandford I own every book and I’ll keep reading/listening as I’ve done since Rules. But Please, Take Lucas back to basics, and PLEASE SOMEBODY shop around for another narrator.

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

No Wizard power needed
Revisado: 01-15-24
The story was pretty good. Following on the heels of Battleground, Harry’s set up in “the Castle”, he’s reunited with Bob.
The post-Murph remembrances are a combo of PTSD and grief, but Karen would have told him to suck it up already.
Jim did a good job narrating, but Harry’s very John Wayne-sounding by the end, although he doesn’t start that way.
This would have been a decent Harry voice, if James hadn’t gotten there first.
Harry’s brain baby disappeared in Peacetalks and didn’t show up in Battleground, the Christmas story, or this one. So I’m interested to see what’s up with her.
Overall I’m glad I got the book.
Good to see Harry being a PI again.
Hoping all the short stories end up in another anthology like Briefcases, because I don’t want have to buy the ones with the other authors and characters in them.

Revisado: 10-04-23
No one can ever be Richard Ferrone.
Petkoff was pretty good, but would love to have him listen to a few of Ferrone’s works. Esp the adrenaline driven scenes and the appreciative “hmmmm” Davenport is known for.
Story was good, but would love for it to have ended less abruptly.

Historia
So begins a press release from a mysterious group known only as “The Five,” shortly after a vicious predator is murdered in San Francisco. The Five is made up of vigilante killers who are very bored…and very rich. They target the worst of society—rapists, murderers, and thieves—and then use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the dark net. The Five soon become popular figures in the media …though their motives may not be entirely pure.

RIP Richard Ferrone
Revisado: 02-08-23
This book was gripping and intense, another perfect Virgil/Lucas mash-up.
Ultimately though, I listened to it this 3rd time since publication with great sadness knowing it is the final Davenport performance for Richard Ferrone.
He’s the voice of this series and these characters. Even in the new Letty Davenport book, it was wildly comforting to have his voice reading to me.
As a huge fan of your voice, Mr Ferrone, I’ll miss you greatly.
As a huge fan of John Sandford’s novels, I anxiously await what the future holds for Lucas, Virgil, and Letty.

I wish these were real characters. The story is well told, plenty of surprises. Lots of wanting to shake them by the neck for being so dumb, plenty of friends I’ve felt this way about. Great wrap ups without making it glib.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Revisado: 01-21-20
Seriously! Thought I had gotten the text to read version for Kindle. There is very little inflection. His voice almost echoes with machinery. I’m struggling through this because someone else narrates the second book and I really like Lincoln Rhyme, but it’s a difficult pill to swallow. Please Mr O’Brien, stick to reading stereo instructions.
