Historia
The sand-blasted world of Arrakis has become green, watered, and fertile. Old Paul Atreides, who led the desert Fremen to political and religious domination of the galaxy, is gone. But for the children of Dune, the very blossoming of their land contains the seeds of its own destruction. The altered climate is destroying the giant sandworms, and this in turn is disastrous for the planet's economy.

Dune is a deep & enjoyable series!
Revisado: 03-07-25
I am thoroughly enjoying the original Dune series as a whole. The first book was the most exciting, while books 2 & 3 give more depth to the sociology, psychology, politics & religions of Dune. I’ve been told book 4 is where the excitement & action picks up dramatically.
I’m glad that Simon Vance is largely the only narrator. He does a wonderful job on his own. (No need for the dramatic cast from book 1)

The second Dune installment explores new developments on the planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and strange, threatening environment. Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Muad'Dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men. But the question is: DO all paths of glory lead to the grave?

Fantastic sequel!
Revisado: 01-28-25
Many describe this book as dull b/c it dives deeper into the philosophical and religious aspects of Dune w/little action. I found this depth wildly entertaining! I couldn’t put it down & can’t wait to read & listen to the next books in the series.
This narration was handled better as Simon Vance narrated the majority and there were fewer changes in voices (compared to the confusing variations in voices in book 1)

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Revisado: 01-28-25
This book is a fantastic classic science fiction! My only complaint is I preferr Simon Vance as the narrator over the actors. Going back and forth made it confusing to know which characters were speaking.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Fascinating & terrifying!
Revisado: 09-23-24
Annie Jacobsen did a marvelous job of researching, compiling, and delivering very important information to her readers. The reality of nuclear war is terrifying and needs to be understood, and she did a superb job at helping us all understand. It’s both fascinating and terrifying and reads like a fictional thriller…but it is truth and it cannot be ignored. The narration done by the author herself is wonderful and engaging!

Historia
When Lawrence Anthony learned that the northern white rhino, living in the war-ravaged Congo, was on the very brink of extinction, he knew he had to act. If the world lost the sub-species, it would be the largest land mammal since the woolly mammoth to go extinct. In The Last Rhinos, Anthony recounts his attempts to save these remarkable animals. The demand for rhino horns in the Far East has turned poaching into a dangerous black market that threatens the lives of not just these rare beasts, but also the rangers who protect them.

Fantastic perspective from a man set out to save the animals of this world and never realized how he would save her people too.
Revisado: 06-14-24
What I thought would be a simple story of the rhinos became an in depth look at African culture, her people, her animals, her land, and her heritage. I learned more about the conflict than I’ve ever heard elsewhere, and from Mr Anthony’s non-biased perspective. His sincerity & integrity taught me so much and helped me appreciate the planet so much more.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Fascinating! Real life is more entertaining than fiction!
Revisado: 06-08-24
I agree with the New York Times review that says this book is “easily our fullest, richest, most panoramic history of the subject.” I expected to get a comprehensive picture of the 1918 influenza pandemic, but I was delighted to also receive a full education on the history of medical science, education, and scientific study! The author understood that to comprehend what was happening in 1918, one has to understand man’s understanding up to that point. Mr. Barry organized his information and stories in a way that made it read almost like a thrilling novel! I would be very interested to read an updated version to hear his thoughts and research post-Covid. Also, the narrator is wonderful! It must be difficult to narrate medical and historical facts, but he did it with great emotion & inflection and kept me captivated. I only have 2 complaints: 1. It would be helpful if there was a glossary of names, dates, and terms, and chapter headings. 2. I was thrown off by the opinion that evolutionists are the only smart people and any person of faith is an idiot. This opinion bled throughout the book creating a bias that wasn’t necessary and was very distracting.

Historia
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

Don’t get the abridged version.
Revisado: 05-03-24
I could not quite figure out what I didn’t like about this audiobook until I realized I bought the abridged version by mistake. Malcom Gladwell books always serve you up a 7 course meal with all the trimmings, but the abridged leaves it just bread & water. The content is still fascinating, but lacks all the good flavor of the full explanation.
I will ALWAYS recommend Malcolm Gladwell! All his books are great…unabridged.

Sci-fi's favorite antisocial AI is back on a mission. The case against the too-big-to-fail GrayCris Corporation is floundering, and more importantly, authorities are beginning to ask more questions about where Dr. Mensah's SecUnit is. And Murderbot would rather those questions went away. For good. Martha Wells' Rogue Protocol is the third in the Murderbot Diaries series, starring a humanlike android who keeps getting sucked back into adventure after adventure, though it just wants to be left alone, away from humanity and small talk.
