Historia
Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd. The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

disappointing
Revisado: 04-05-25
I'm a big fan of Charles Martin and I've read each of his novels many times, so it's difficult for me to write a negative review. but here we are. part of my disappointment was the heavy use of repetition from previous books in the series. I understand that there is benefit in bringing new readers up to speed. but in this case, all the flashbacks felt lazy and did not advance the narrative. as for the narrator, I've enjoyed him in the previous books in the series but his voice has changed in this one. I particularly noticed this in one of the main characters (no spoiler here). instead of being soothing and reassuring, the voice was low and gruff. this made the character difficult to identify with emotionally. overall not a bad book but definitely not as good as the previous 3 books in the series.

Historia
Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can't be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family's infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She's the type of girl you don't notice until the second - or third - look, but there's something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she's the one.

mystery lasts too long
Revisado: 02-28-25
the story is quickly engaging and then the foreshadowing begins. for a while the anticipation of what the mystery is feels good. then it draws out entirely too long. the ending feels rushed after such a long delay/anticipation. sadly, my interest waned in the middle because the plot was advancing so slowly. the narrator did a fabulous job as always.

Historia
Hugh Prentice has never had patience for dramatic females, and if Lady Sarah Pleinsworth has ever been acquainted with the words shy or retiring, she's long since tossed them out the window. Sarah has never forgiven Hugh for the duel he fought three years earlier, the one that forced her cousin into exile, nearly destroying her family. But when the pair is forced to spend a week in close company, they discover that first impressions are not always reliable. And when one kiss leads to two, three, and four, the mathematician may lose count, and the lady may, for the first time, find herself speechless.

overall disappointing
Revisado: 02-26-25
while I enjoyed part of the story (romance) the animosity between the hero and heroine lasted too long. also, the evil and sadism of the father was too graphic and lengthy for an otherwise light-hearted romance. I liked Hugh but Sarah's character lacked full development. the spicy scenes seemed to recycle words and phrases used in other Quinn books and lacked originality. it's unlikely I will read/listen to this one again.

Historia
Anne Wynter might not be who she says she is.... But she's managing quite well as a governess to three highborn young ladies. Her job can be a challenge: in a single week she finds herself hiding in a closet full of tubas, playing an evil queen in a play that might be a tragedy (or might be a comedy; no one is sure), and tending to the wounds of the oh-so-dashing Earl of Winstead. After years of dodging unwanted advances, he's the first man who has truly tempted her, and it's getting harder and harder to resist.

strong subplot
Revisado: 02-24-25
although I enjoy most Julia Quinn's work, I often lament that there aren't any subplots. it's simply a romance, the end. but this time there is an exciting subplot that added a lot of depth to the storyline. romantic, sweet, sometimes funny. very good.

Historia
Faking an engagement to my secret high school crush was not on my to-do list when I landed for a short visit home. But when Amanda Anderson announces that she’s my fiancée, I take a leap and play along with the farce. Why? Because the Capulets and Montagues have nothing on the Andersons and Silvers of Tinsel, Michigan. In the name of bringing peace to our Christmas-themed hometown and ourselves, we’ll play the part of Romeo and Juliet.

excessive profanity
Revisado: 02-06-25
I only made it 15 minutes in and I'm overwhelmed with the unnecessary "f" bombs. additionally, the male narrator's intonation is flat and lacks character. while the book's premise is relatively interesting, the execution is poor.

disappointing
Revisado: 01-01-25
I'm a big KEW fan but somehow had missed this book. now I know why. it is unfathomable to me to believe that the heroine would/could fall in love with a man who repeatedly raped her. I find this so ludicrous that I cannot finish the book. the narrator did a great job, as usual for her, but that cannot overcome the repugnance of the central premise of the book. I'm very disappointed but will be returning this one.
