Historia

Historia
Investigator Arkady Renko, the pariah of the Moscow prosecutor's office, has been assigned the thankless job of investigating a new phenomenon: late-night subway riders report seeing the ghost of Joseph Stalin on the platform of the Chistye Prudy Metro station. The illusion seems part political hocus-pocus and also part wishful thinking, for among many Russians Stalin is again popular - the bloody dictator can boast a two-to-one approval rating.

Who is this guy chasing?
Revisado: 08-26-17
Being a veteran of Harry Bosch, Davenport and Hole novels, this one was quite different. I listened through it and in the last half hour finally realized who Arkady was actually hunting. Intriguing, but if you share my taste then this may not be the book you are looking for.

How to be more effective in live
Revisado: 05-16-17
This book is a great introduction to the subtle psychological cues that we use to sort the people around us into friends and foes.
Normally this happens in our subconscious without us realizing it. By making it conscious throughout the book, Jack and Marvin give you a distinct edge in grooming your personal relationship, be it with your partner, at work or basically anywhere else.

Historia
Often downplayed in the excitement of starting up a new business venture is one of the most important decisions entrepreneurs will face: should they go it alone, or bring in cofounders, hires, and investors to help build the business? More than just financial rewards are at stake. Friendships and relationships can suffer. Bad decisions at the inception of a promising venture lay the foundations for its eventual ruin.

Parenting 101 for your startup baby
Revisado: 01-07-16
If you could sum up The Founder's Dilemmas in three words, what would they be?
Bad decision prevention.
What did you learn from The Founder's Dilemmas that you would use in your daily life?
This book has given me a very good basis for taking decisions on my own fledgeling startup. It was on one hand reinforcing existing gut feelings (like preferring a dynamic over a static equity split) and also eye-opening (like what can happen when you take money from friends & family).
Any additional comments?
This book is rich in content and charts. The first makes for a great, educational listening experience. The latter not so much. There are plentiful references in the book to figure x and chart y. But this here is an _audio_book. If extra thought had been given how to make this aspect of the book more digestible, I would have gladly given 5 stars. As it stands, this makes it 4.

Historia
You and a partner go into business together and split the equity 50/50. You do all the work and your partner slacks off. He owns half your business - now what? Slicing Pie outlines a process for calculating exactly the right number of shares each founder or employee in an early stage company deserves.
You will learn: How to value the time and resources an individual brings to the company relative to the contributions of others.

For me as a German: groundbreaking
Revisado: 01-07-16
If you could sum up Slicing Pie in three words, what would they be?
Startups done better.
What about Kevin Young’s performance did you like?
He kept me engaged and focussed throughout the book, even in the case examples which I sometimes find hard to follow along without a pen and paper at hand (which I did not have available, sitting in the car when I listened to this book).
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes - I listened to it all in one sitting. 4 hours of my life well invested.
Any additional comments?
The challenge now will be to implement something like a grunt fund based dynamic equity split concept in Germany - whose IRS counterpart tends to err, shall we just say, more towards the conservative side of things. But then life wouldn't be such a great journey without challenges to overcome and problems to solve.

Historia
Most personal and organizational problems are the result of a little-known phenomenon called "self-deception". We deceive ourselves into thinking we're doing the right thing for the right reason, but people won't follow a leader whose motives are selfish. The tricky thing is, we don't know that our motivation is flawed. This audiobook explains what self-deception is, how people get trapped in it, how it undermines relationships and organizational achievement, and - most importantly - the surprising way to solve it.

Eye opening!
Revisado: 07-10-15
Can something as basic as the way you see people around you have that much of an impact on your performance in our interrelated world?
You bet... and this book so far is the best guide on understanding and applying this I had the pleasure to listen to.
