Historia
Felicity Barrows is no fool, though the fortune hunters pestering her must believe differently. What other reason could they have for hounding her every step, showering her with honeyed words and false compliments, expecting her to fall straight into their calculating arms? Better to remain a spinster than marry unhappily—if she could only get some peace from their incessant overtures.

Historia
Seven years ago, Lady Lydia Whiting married for the good of her parents, and widowhood was supposed to mark the beginning of her freedom. But when her husband spurns her from beyond the grave and cuts her from his will, her parents are determined to force her into another wretched marriage of convenience. Fleeing is the only option. Robert Bradshaw has a good, quiet life. Work and his daughter are all he needs, even if others think he ought to remarry. Why should he? His beloved wife was an angel among men, and no other could compare—especially a young widow who is more mouse than woman.

Im so happy to have encountered M.A. Nichols books years ago. Im addicted. I also applaud Ms. Brolly for her excellent narration which I believe is more of a gentle, soothing performance that complements each of the books. The two, author and narrator, create a brilliant alchemy in these audiobooks. Thank you and........ More please!!

Historia
When Silas Byrnes married, he wasn’t expecting a happy ending for him and his wife. Theirs was a union of duty and not love, but fourteen years of marriage had been a misery for them both. Luckily the navy rarely allowed him time ashore. Now widowed, Silas has no choice but to return to a house that doesn’t feel like home and reclaim his children, who are determined to hate him as their mother did.

VV Narration ruined it for me
Revisado: 07-22-24
I'm familiar with Elyse Douglas' work and have enjoyed many of her TT stories.
It was regrettable that this particular work of hers was combined with a Virtual Voice narration. It (VV) was an uninspired and flavourless performance that detracted from the story making it tedious to follow. Given the narration I could not get 'into' the story. Gave up after 2 hours.
So I give Virtual Voice a 1 Star rating for performance even though it deserves Zero.
I have not given up on Douglas. I will look for other of her books. Hopefully she will stay away from VV.

Historia
A shy wallflower, Caroline hasn't the faintest idea why the Duke of Readington chose her to be his bride. She could ask, but that would mean speaking to him...and she'd rather have a conversation with the devil Eric married Caroline for one simple reason: he wasn't in love with her. Having seen firsthand how love can bring a man to his knees, he's determined not to make the same mistakes his father did. After a winter storm leaves him stranded with Caroline, Eric turns around and finds himself stumbling over the wife he never wanted...but is slowly beginning to desire....or was it?

A novella
Revisado: 05-03-24
I usually don't go for short novellas but this one had good reviews and looked promising. The narrative would probably have been more intriguing if the plot were more fleshed out, more time spent on developing characters' and perhaps place it in a more historical or psychological context to give it some depth and background. Otherwise to me it is just a 'boy meet girl' romance with some broad strokes outlining the characters. Meh. There is obviously some good (or dark) back story to the duke and his unwillingness to open up to his bride that was hinted at. Plus, would it not have been interesting to know more of the bride's story and why she was so 'shy'.. a domineering (or abusive) mother perhaps? Anyways, I came away with not really knowing the characters and what kind of alchemy, if any, might exist between them. And a sense of is that all there is? That is why I gave 3 stars.

Had some Potential
Revisado: 03-07-24
Going on what the reviewers wrote I was expecting a fabulous read. But, to my dismay, I found early on in the story that it was a highly unlikely fantasy about an emotionally vulnerable woman running away from an intolerable and abusive marriage of 8 years, and, who does an 180 degree change in a matter of about days! And also, if to be believed, feels twinges of sexual attraction to an absolute stranger, and fearsome to boot, when having just escaped an abusive husband mere hours before, doesn't sound like it is a character grounded in reality IMHO. One would have to suspend a great deal of belief. More character development, a believable dialogue, and a tighter plot, and perhaps a richer historical content would have made it less disappointing for me.
I must say though, that the storyline in itself has some good potential to further explore and deepen. However, excessive, gratuitous 'sex' scenes detracts and draws attention away from a good tale. Now my sensibilities are not so affronted if I felt such sizzling descriptions contributed to the interest and continuance of the story. But in this narrative, it begs the question: is this about time travel, sci-fi and, or, historical fiction? Or is it only about bed sport in the 15th century as a way to heal from 8 years of emotional and mental abuse. Hmmm... I think this topic could have been handled with a little more care.
Also, and this is off tangent I know, why is it a popular trope for the TT heroine to try her darnest to venture outside the walls of the keep after being given explicit orders by the H no less NOT to do so? Just wondering.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-22-24
This is one of those cases where I looked at the reviews and was persuaded to check it out.
The story had potential, I thought, but the main character was difficult to relate, or, to grow attached to, she being so naive and so young. The narrator had a fine voice but she too gave the girl, Marianne, too child-like, and inexperienced a voice.
If this was the intention of both author and narrator, then they succeeded. And that is why I feel this book was a disappointment for me. I gave up at about chapter 18.

"Take thirty days off or you're fired." To twenty-first-century surgeon Dr. Evie Wortham, her hospital's ultimatum of thirty days' leave in the calming wilderness of the Scottish Highlands so she can get a handle on her anger issues means one thing: unbearable boredom. But she agrees out of pity for her best friend who Human Resources nominated to pass out the punishment. So, she heads to the outskirts of Inverness for a month of hiking, biking, and becoming one with nature. But a climb behind a waterfall to rescue a kitten permanently strikes the word boredom from her vocabulary.

Enjoyable read
Revisado: 09-02-23
A witty and fun storyline, with a smattering of highlander history and time travel, that'll all make for light entertainment on a rainy day. Kudos Ms. Greyson.
Although Mr. Ferguson's interpretation and Scots brogue is quite enjoyable enough, but maybe to experiment with another narrator with similar talents would not go amiss. A female narrator perhaps?
At the point of writing this review, I have listened to this audiobook several times. Ive enjoyed the witty repartee especially when the two main characters meet.
I look forward to more of your time travel escapades and tales Ms. Greyson.
