Nice story, aggressive narrator

All in all, the story is nice.
I just don’t understand why the narrator has to make the blind man sooo aggressive. It almost made me want to stop listening. I can’t imagine the author wanted him to be such an angry man, that he‘s basically always aggressive towards everyone at such a high level.

It's a cute story, but of all millionaire romances, it's definitely not my favorite, nor one that made me want to continue listening to it the minute I could in anticipation of how the story goes on. The heroine is a bit annoying, but that could also be the voice and pitch given to her by the speaker. I was not too fond of her voice for the parts of the male role. I felt the millionaire was two different characters, depending on who was reading him.

For a significant part of the story, it feels
like the word count needs to get in there, and I found myself skipping 15s a lot to jump some of the, perhaps in my opinion only, irrelevant, more tedious parts and storylines.
Personally, I would have preferred a different name for the heroine. It might be better when reading the book, but listening to it, the ‘maybe’ - wordplay wasn’t always funny and very often distracting.

To sum it up, I was not interested in continuing the series as I usually am. It didn't make me wonder how it could go no. I wasn't hungry for more or wished the story had gone on. I was actually happy it was finally over.

Nice story, but bad robotic reader

What I liked: a book that tells the story without jumping into tons of other stories, trying to hit the +10 hours, but sticking to the flow of what it’s about.
What I did not like: the reader. I actually stopped and checked a few times to see if it was an AI voice, which it’s not. It was robotic and felt like a young kid’s voice trying hard. Sometimes, the emotional side of the story doesn’t match the voice, in my opinion.

I like the story, and because I was curious, I listened to the book to the end. This was, however, the first time I listened to an audiobook with an AI narration, and it also was the last. Please, dear audiobook world, don’t ruin your world by us having to listen to audiobooks with an artificial voice. It’s a nightmare. No emotions, no intonation, horrible perception, and on top of it, all, it was hard to follow which character was actually talking due to the lack of the proper intonation and the timbre and voice never changing. Count me out for any AI read books!

Too long, too many side stories

The story is not bad, however, to me it felt like the author ‚had to‘ write an especially long book, so lots of tiny extra stories with excessive detail accompany the main story.
I have lots of Australian friends, and the Australian accent in the book sounded nothing like my friends. It actually confused me most of the times.

The book kept me curious enough and wondering how the story would end, however, when I felt like the plot was not moving, I increased the speed to 1.5 hardly ever having the feeling, I’d missed something. So when the book FINALLY comes to an end, I had the impression the author was out of words and just wanted to get the book over with now. I wished, it had been shorter in the middle but a bit of a longer ending with more details.

Reader’s voice is annoying

Plot: pitter-patter boring
Reader‘s voice makes it soooo hard to finish the book. As the narrator it’s okay, although pretty monotonous. However, when she plays the main role, the voice is a no-go, high-pitched & whining voice. She sounds like a cry-baby, or a victim. It’s horrible.
I was not able to finish the book, but also because the story was a bit boring.

To me it felt like Jenny Colgan wasn’t sure what to write anymore in this book. Some parts were so much longer than necessary, but I guess the book needs to be filled with words. It was okay, but a tee wee boring at times.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Content to begin withSpeed of narrator

Would you ever listen to anything by Sandi Lynn again?

I'm afraid not!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

So boring - narrated in slow motion it makes you fall asleep immediately! The change between a male and female voice to highlight the perspectives usually is a nice approach, failed here in my opinion.

What character would you cut from Love in Between?

Both main characters- one's worse than the other!

Any additional comments?

The story is boring, poor and not enticing at all. Although it sounds like it could be interesting it turns out to be very annoying. The applied language is simple to vulgar. I don't mind reading or hearing people curse at all - if it fits here and there but this book is full of the simplest language in just about any situation - in a negative way! I really tried hard, wanting to give the book a chance but finally gave up after chapter 20! The first 20 chapters could have been told in 3! If you usually enjoy a bit of variety in vocabulary - then this is the wrong book for you!

Would you consider the audio edition of Little Beach Street Bakery to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the different accents, thus think the audio book may have been more entertaining (although I thought the US accent was not so authentic, it was still fun)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Poly Waterfold - a sweet person but still human!

What about Anne-Marie Piazza’s performance did you like?

well read - fun, interesting - keeps the audience listening

Who was the most memorable character of Little Beach Street Bakery and why?

The owner of the bakery - she's rude and mean and you kind of hope that she turns out to be a nice person in the end - or perhaps the crazy rich American, although he's a bit annoying and perhaps that's why he's memorable.

Any additional comments?

nice audio for easy listening

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

As an audio book...only if they need to practice listening to a monotonous narrator with an Indian accent and all this without falling asleep; otherwise I'd recommend actually reading the book - not listening to it - as it is a nice and touching story. It does get a bit boring at times and the narrator makes even the happy scenes sound depressing. Very unilateral sound and speed.

Would you be willing to try another book from Carole Matthews? Why or why not?

Sure - with a different narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rita Sharma’s performances?

hardly

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

probably not

Any additional comments?

I definitely recommend listening to to the preview. I'm almost sure that this audiobook is an 'either you like it - or not' - book. At one point I changed the speed of the narration and it still was surprisingly slow. On the other side I did want to know how the story would continue, which kept me listening till the end. The ending itself went by rather quickly (felt like 10 or 20 minutes...?) considering that the main part took hours of reading/listening.
