Historia
There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend. Avempartha is the second of a six book series entitled the Riyria Revelations.

Historia
Why would I want to learn all the notes of my fretboard? Over my 25+ year career as a musician and guitar teacher, I have come across many guitarists who cannot name all the frets on the fretboard. Learning the guitar or music theory for that matter, with no knowledge of the basic fundamental organization of the fretboard is a bit like trying to learn to swim without getting into the water.

It may not be magic, but it definitely works.
Revisado: 03-16-21
This book is a big, awesome delivery in a tiny package.
The 20 minutes of information that is packed into this training guide is deceivingly powerful. A lot can be said about the quality of this book. Usually, books narrated by the author (and I don’t mean to be disrespectful to authors who undertake the challenge to narrate their own books) are missing the pace and rhythm of a “professional” narrator. The right performance often makes the difference between a book that may be good but is challenging to get through and one that is okay but is a pleasure to listen to. Guitar Fretboard Memory Magic delivers good content, and it is a pleasure to listen to. (Note: This short book does have a rather lengthy intro, but the freebies are great, and you should definitely go check them out - there is a LOT of value in the bonuses.)
The presentation of this book is perfect for the content. The book's pace is excellent, and I really enjoyed the demonstrations of the practice routines - they are simple, brief, and very easy to follow. This is the perfect way to introduce a new player to the fretboard, and the exercises are also an excellent way for a seasoned guitarist to warm up.
Obviously, you can’t see the formatting in the Audible book, but you can download the PDF included with your purchase: it is beautiful. It is, like the rest of the book, truly professional. The silhouettes, transparencies, and pictures are fabulous and emphasize the art of music. I may be reading a lot into this, but the extra touch of graphics and background is really impressive.
Several artistically presented bonuses in the appendix are a great addition to this book: notes on the fretboard, blank chord diagrams for your use, and blank staff/tab paper for your use. In addition to what’s in the book, you will find directions to the author’s Website, YouTube Channel, and Facebook page, where you are given access to a ton of additional material and resources (“freebies”).
The simple truth is exactly what is presented in Guitar Fretboard Memory Magic: IF you follow the SIMPLE steps that are presented in this book, you WILL painlessly memorize all the notes on your guitar neck forever. Frequent repetition of any activity (like pressing the strings of a guitar in specific places on a fretboard) will inevitably lead to both muscle memory and automatic response. Essentially, this is a habit that you can develop easily. 5 to 15 minutes a day is not difficult to do, and after doing this every day, it will become automatic. It’s just like memorizing the words to a song: the first few times you hear a song, you may not recall the words, but over time you learn them so well that sometimes you will sing them without even realizing you are doing it.
(Note: The 4 stars for the “story” is only because this is a training guide. Even though the presentation and overall content are excellent, there isn’t much of a story here, just matter-of-fact directions on developing your fretboard skills. I also wanted the book to continue, but in retrospect, everything necessary to develop a routine to master the fretboard is there.)
The “magic” here is practice and discipline. If you have 5 to 15 minutes to spend once or twice a day practicing the exercises and you consistently do this, it will seem like magic: before you know it, you will hit every note on the fretboard perfectly.

Published in 1916, this story is over a hundred years old, yet its message is just as relevant today as it was in 1916. Perhaps even more so. Why? Because never have we had greater access to information yet at the same time we’ve never been more deficient in common sense. Advertising legend David Ogilvy believed this book changed his life and was so passionate about its message that he had his employees read it every year. This is less a book about advertising, or even about Adams himself, as much as it’s a book about the power of mindset.

Simply obvious.
Revisado: 03-02-21
Sometimes we know things or see things and don't even realize it until someone points them out. They are so obvious that we don't think about them. Obvious Adams is an excellent example of mindfulness: he considers everything in the present and in his presence, including the things that are obviously overlooked by everyone else even though they are, or should be, aware of them. Very revealing and enlightening.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Difficult subject handled well.
Revisado: 12-21-18
The stories are interesting. Sad, joyful, disturbing, and comforting all at the same time. As a "conservative" Christian who believes in "traditional family values," I was disappointed with the concluding chapter.
This book has an overall theme of inclusiveness and non-judgmental acceptance of others. I appreciate, respect, and totally agree with this. However, to conclude a wonderful exploration of family values by stereotyping family constructs of the past and present is bothersome. ALL "families" are made up of individuals who should be loved and respected regardless of the choices they make about the way they choose to live as long as they are not hurting others.

Revisado: 10-05-18
This book covers a very heady and esoteric subject. While it would be extraordinary to be able to embrace increasing your own power, this books presents "findings" without any guidance on how to use the information in a constructive way.
It is a fascinating topic, but the reader is left wondering how this information can be uses in a practical way.

I just finished listening to this book for the first time. I am listening to it again RIGHT NOW! I am also diving into my business rather than dabbling in it (I work 40+ hours a week building someone else's dream - it's time to start building mine). I also ordered the hard copy book. I plan to read it as many times as it takes me to CRUSH IT!
