Historia
The transition from President Donald J. Trump to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. stands as one of the most dangerous periods in American history. But as number one internationally best-selling author Bob Woodward and acclaimed reporter Robert Costa reveal for the first time, it was far more than just a domestic political crisis. Woodward and Costa interviewed more than 200 people at the center of the turmoil, resulting in more than 6,000 pages of transcripts - and a spellbinding and definitive portrait of a nation on the brink.

Very Interesting Listen
Revisado: 09-27-21
This was a great behind the scenes account of both Trumps final days in office and Bidens build up and eventual beginning presidency. While this does show the crazy town that was the Trump Whitehouse as the news articles and previews alluded to, the biggest thing I took away from this was a complete loss of respect for Lindsey Graham. He comes off as a complete brown nosing, snake in the grass that cares nothing about the US.
I also left with much more respect for Mike Pence. While I do not agree with the man's politics he may of single handedly prevented a very dark time in US history on par with the Civil War. He did what was right in an impossible situation that so many others would have bent on at great risk to him, his family, and his future political career.

Historia
In Shock is a riveting first-hand account from a young critical care physician, who in the passage of a moment is transfigured into a dying patient. This transposition, coincidentally timed at the end of her medical training, instantly lays bare the vast chasm between the conventional practice of medicine and the stark reality of the prostrate patient.

Started strong but faded as it went on
Revisado: 08-14-21
For starters I love medical book particularly those written by doctors. I appreciate the science and the real world stories of the profession. So I am not new to the genre by any means.
While the story started very strong and intense with me listening intently for the first couple hours it faded as things progresses. I found the author's ideas on how doctors should be too preachy and really lacks empathy for the daily struggles of someone in the field. Some of the points she made were real and doctors could take to heart, I just felt the delivery came off very abrasive especially with how interacted with others that were often time Co workers. Many of the things she expected out of others just are not in everyone's nature. More over some people may have genuinely identified with her situation but lacked the words to express it or perhaps struggle with expressing themselves particularly in intensely emotional or awkward moments. Yet others maybe dealing with something like social anxiety.
What she went through was truly awful and her recollections of the event serve as an important message to doctors: always remember your patients are people and may can hear or see you despite thier overall mental state. That said this author expects too much out of people already dealing with one of the hardest jobs on the planet and the message was often lost just due to a lack of tact.
I have a couple hours left but decided to take a break and leave a review. I may comeback to this after some time and finish it and update my review but I honestly just need a break from the message and the negativity for the moment.

Historia
In gripping prose, one of the world's leading cardiac surgeons lays bare both the wonder and the horror of a life spent a heartbeat away from death. When Stephen Westaby witnessed a patient die on the table during open-heart surgery for the first time, he was struck by the quiet, determined way the surgeons walked away. As he soon understood, this detachment is a crucial survival strategy in a profession where death is only a heartbeat away. In Open Heart, Westaby reflects on over 11,000 surgeries, showing us why the procedures have never become routine and will never be.

This book starts a little slow but ramps up to a point where you won't want to stop listening for the night. Very good mix of entertainment and science. Great medical read.

Historia
This is a book of miracles - medical events witnessed by leading physicians for which there is no reasonable medical explanation, or, if there is, the explanation itself is extraordinary. These dramatic first-person essays detail spectacular serendipities, impossible cures, breathtaking resuscitations, extraordinary awakenings, and recovery from unimaginable disasters. Miracles We Have Seen is a book of inspiration and optimism, and a compelling glimpse into the lives of physicians.

Entertaining, but a little too Gody at times
Revisado: 06-17-21
I have been enjoying the stories here and it's a must for some of you looking for positive stories in a world full of negative ones. I primarily got this book for the medical aspects, but still enjoyed the general positive vibe it portrayed. My only complaint is God and religion were brought up a little too much for liking. Probably not a big deal for those with faith so this maybe a positive for you. For those of you getting this for the medical science aspect you maybe disappointed. I for one think doctors and nurses should get the credit for these miracles and I would of liked to hear more about how they did it.
All that said I'm still happy with this title and enjoyed it.

Joe Kenda investigated 387 murder cases during his 23 years with the Colorado Springs Police Department and solved almost all of them. And he is ready to detail the cases that are too gruesome to air on television, cases that still haunt him, and the few cases where the killer got away. These cases are horrifyingly real, and the detail is so mesmerizing you won't be able to turn it off.

OK I Guess
Revisado: 02-04-20
The actual police cases in this book were interesting and were covered well by the author, but just past about halfway it starts being about personal life related to the job which I was just not that interested in and would have rather just heard more cases. The author also has a bit of an annoying habit of trying to come across as a badass which I felt was unnecessary and distracted from the story.

Good Listen to Medical Enthusiasts
Revisado: 06-29-19
I'm not a doctor but have always been interested in medicine and would gauge my knowledge on the subject as above average. With that in mind its always hard for me to find good medical non fiction. Its either too dumbed down and lacking scientific detail or way too technical with its target being medical professionals and students. This book had just the right balance and I enjoyed the stories told and the science explained. If you are anything like me in this regard you will enjoy this book toom

Historia
In medical school, Matt McCarthy dreamed of being a different kind of doctor - the sort of mythical, unflappable physician who could reach unreachable patients. But when a new admission to the critical care unit almost died his first night on call, he found himself scrambling. Visions of mastery quickly gave way to hopes of simply surviving hospital life, where confidence was hard to come by and no amount of med school training could dispel the terror of facing actual patients.

Revisado: 01-06-19
I am a fan of medical books such as despite no connection to the profession. This book has a good balance of story, science, and emotions. I could see it being helpful to a struggling medical intern or student out there. Its also just a fabulous listen if you just enjoy these kinds of reality based stories. I listened to the whole thing through over only a weekend.

A good listen if you want to know about the case
Revisado: 10-24-18
This was a very good explanation of all the crazy and tragic happenings behind the murder of Skylar Neese. Definitely worth a listen if you are a fan of true crime. It was well researched and accurate and the story kept my attention.
My only complaints are the occasional hearsay, but its not over the top and facts generally are stated. There are parts though that focus on it too much and thus a loss of a star. The narrator's pronunciation of the word 'sex' also drove me crazy, but I didn't remove a star for something so silly.

So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.
