Historia
Venture, a direct rival to the Weyland-Yutani corporation, will accept any risk to crush the competition. Thus, when a corporate spy "acquires" a bizarre, leathery egg from a hijacked vessel, she takes it directly to the Venture testing facility on Jericho 3. Though unaware of the danger it poses, the scientists there recognize their prize's immeasurable value. Early tests reveal little, however, and they come to an inevitable conclusion. They need a human test subject.... Enter Zula Hendricks.

terrible, Aliens with SJW politics
Revisado: 02-10-22
they've injected intersectional political pandering to the aliens world. All the heroes are strong womyn, all the bad guys and idiots are men, and they started talking about trans issues before I quit listening and deleted it from my phone. hard pass on this, just tell me a good story about aliens. no politics necessary.

Historia
With the failure of Hadley's Hope, Weyland-Yutani has suffered a devastating setback - the loss of the Aliens they aggressively sought to exploit. Yet there's a reason the Company has risen to the top of the food chain. True to form, they have a redundancy already in place: the facility known as "The Cold Forge". Remote station RB-232 has become their greatest asset in weaponizing the Xenomorphs. However, when Dorian Sudler is sent to RB-232 to assess their progress, he discovers that there's a spy aboard - someone who doesn't necessarily act in the company's best interests.

Historia
Bradbury's Mars is a place of hope, dreams, and metaphor - of crystal pillars and fossil seas - where a fine dust settles on the great, empty cities of a silently destroyed civilization. It is here the invaders have come to despoil and commercialize, to grow and to learn - first a trickle, then a torrent, rushing from a world with no future toward a promise of tomorrow. The Earthman conquers Mars...and then is conquered by it, lulled by dangerous lies of comfort and familiarity, and enchanted by the lingering glamour of an ancient, mysterious native race.

Good but bleak

a tragically accurate portrayal of humanity. Very well written, but also quite bleak and depressing. It has some important lessons about human nature, but it's definitely not a feel good read.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

too much screaming
Revisado: 11-14-20
the story was ok, Waaaaayyy too long for what it is. Nearly as long as Lord of the Rings, but doesn't come close to the scope of that work. could have been half as long and been fine. Also I like the narrator, but throughout the whole book, he screams and shouts, really loudly, it's quite obnoxious. Especially when you're trying to fall asleep, and suddenly he there screaming in your ear. For that reason alone I couldn't wait to finish this book. It's really, really bad.

Historia
In this gripping account, John Avedon draws on his work and travels with the Fourteenth Dalai Lama to bring us the riveting story of Tibet and its temporal and spiritual leader. Included is an extensive interview with the Dalai Lama, who speaks about the conditions in Tibet, the mind of a Buddha, and the events of his life. Rigorously researched, passionately written, the original edition of In Exile From the Land of Snows was instrumental in launching the modern Tibet movement when it was published in 1984.

A landmark in travel writing, this is the incredible true story of Heinrich Harrer’s escape across the Himalayas to Tibet, set against the backdrop of the Second World War. Heinrich Harrer, already one of the greatest mountaineers of his time, was climbing in the Himalayas when war broke out in Europe. He was imprisoned by the British in India but succeeded in escaping and fled to Tibet.

Julius Caesar has taken his legions north into mighty battles with the Gallic tribes. But as his successes mount, overwhelming ambition and new alliances begin to threaten his friendship with Marcus Brutus, brother-in-arms and fellow warrior. Although the conquest of Gaul has made Caesar a hero all over again, his victories on the battlefield cause still more rivalries at home. And ultimately Caesar and Brutus will have to choose whether to cross the Rubicon - together or singly - and to take the fight to Rome itself.

Poor Narration, Rambling Story
Revisado: 11-10-18
This story isn't as concise as Iggulden's other books in the series, it rambles and feels disjointed and jumps around too much. the characters aren't as relatable as they were in the first two books. And the story isn't pretty inaccurate historically. Julius was older than Servilia, and didn't grow up with Brutus, who was much younger than him. So pivotal points of the story just never happened, which kind of ruins it for me. Also Paul Blake's narration isn't nearly as good as the guy who narrated the first two books. And he pronounces the names very strangely, they're all different from the previous books so it's confusing and annoying. Good story overall, but by the end I was glad to be finished, and I won't be getting the next book.

A fantastic listen, but keep in mind the author took some pretty big liberties with history. Enjoy the story for what it is, but don't expect to learn a history lesson from listening to this.

Boring
Revisado: 09-26-18
Big disappointment after the first story. Mostly just long, philosophical navel gazing, as the characters ramble on about man's hubris and struggling through existential quandaries. And most disappointing of all, it barely mentions Artyom at all! He isn't mentioned once until the last third of the book, and then only mentioned in two other scenes. He was a great character and one of the main reasons I picked up the second book. Big letdown, not sure I'll get the third book.
