Historia
In the early '70s, when America began to awaken to locally sourced food and wine, Gretchen Glasscock returned to Texas from the East with a degree from Columbia University and a penchant for research. Taking over management of the family's 20,000 acres of ranch land and seeking to diversify their interests, she upended a Texas A&M Study asserting that all Texas was a hot and humid climate suitable for growing only jug wines. She identified the region around Blue Mountain in Fort Davis, as cool and crisp, like Napa or parts of France.

Great Story!

I loved hearing Gretchen’s story and all about how Texas wine got it’s start and continues to grow. The narrator was also well suited to the role. There were some pronunciation flaws (ex. Terroir), but overall a very good combo.

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

Just a Review
Revisado: 01-18-22
A review is just an opinion and should always be taken with a grain of salt. If I’d believed some of these negative reviews, I would have never read this interesting, captivating book. Sad, horrific, and unfortunately believable. Listen and see for yourself.

At just 21, the age when most people are starting to drink (well, legally at least), Victoria James became the country’s youngest sommelier at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Even as Victoria was selling bottles worth hundreds and thousands of dollars during the day, passing sommelier certification exams with flying colors, and receiving distinction from all kinds of press, there were still groping patrons, bosses who abused their role and status, and a trip to the hospital emergency room.

I loved the honesty and transparency of this book. She poured a lot of heart and soul into it and it must have been difficult. I do wish someone else would have read it. Her cadence was off in her efforts not to go too fast which made it a little distracting. But don’t let that deter you from listening. It’s a great book!

Great information and really good narration. I originally thought there was no way I could listen to 12 hours worth of a wine book but she’s got great tone and kept it interesting. Loved it!

I loved this book! I wanted to learn about wine and not be bored to tears. Mission accomplished! I didn’t feel the liberal vibe as much as other reviewers, but I’m also pretty open-minded. She’s young, and I appreciated her fresh perspective. I’m now reading her BA articles and listening to her podcasts. She’s hilarious and smart. Yay wine!

I loved this book! Amazing story/stories and well narrated. Well worth the listen. I didn’t find any of the descriptions too gory at all. I’m walking away with much more appreciation for our law enforcement officials than ever before.

Best. Narrator. EVER!
Revisado: 02-02-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is the best book I have ever written on weight loss. I highly recommend this to anyone who is confused, as I was, regarding nutrition and weight gain/loss.
What did you like best about this story?
Dr. Fung gives clear information about how our bodies work and helps clear up so many mixed messages!
What about Brian Nishii’s performance did you like?
The narration was on point and I would have thought Dr. Fung himself was reading to me if I didn't know better. His voice is pleasant, his inflection appropriate, and his narration gave the book a personality that kept me listening even though it got a little science-y in some places.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I got to some places and needed to stop and reflect on the information I just read. I was angry towards other doctors and the government who had fed me incorrect information for so many years. I was angry at myself for believing them when it clearly didn't work. But I was also relieved that I now had information that I knew would work.
Any additional comments?
Armed with this new information, I will never go back to my old beliefs about weight loss. I have begun a new way of eating that incorporates intermittent fasting and I have never felt better. Read Fung's next book, The Complete Guide to Fasting. Watch his YouTube videos, read his blog. Soak it all in. Gin Calhoun Stevens also has an excellent book, Delay Don't Deny, that touts Dr. Fung's principles. It is very relatable. This is doable, people, and we need to do something different since what we have been doing doesn't work. If I can do it, anyone can.

Great Story!!!
Revisado: 06-22-17
It starts out a little slow and difficult to listen to, but it gets better after the first few chapters. I love real life stories about people who overcome adversity and this one did not disappoint. I loved how he obviously infused some dialogue specific to the listeners of the audiobook. Several belly laughs, but this isn't meant to be a comic performance. Kevin captured my attention and kept me listening with interesting stories and relatable content. When I am left feeling like I've learned something from someone and the book uplifted me, I know I'll probably read it again. I'm a fan for life. Love his heart! Thanks, Kevin!
