I’m really on the fence. I love the original series but this one hasn’t really given me anything to be excited about to continue.

Revisado: 12-08-24
What kind of prepper doesn’t do defense? Every single time there was an opportunity to neutralize a threat the characters chose to cower instead. Good premise. Bad actual storyline

Historia
Banished by bad decisions to spend the summer with his great-grandmother, Liam Peters thinks his life is over. After all, Marty Peters is a tough woman to be around. Maybe she wouldn't be so bad if she'd just take an interest in the modern technology he loves. Sure, she has some insight to her...but the woman is practically "pushing daisies". Not surprisingly, as tornado sirens announce a city-wide emergency, Liam discovers why that term should be avoided...well...like the plague.

Many inconsistencies
Revisado: 09-07-24
I’ve loved this series BUT this book feels like it was written by someone else. People’s personalities have changed just since the last book. They’ve forgotten things they’ve already done. Introduction of the mini me to the ladies because their aim sucked so much in book 3 or 4? They made ice cream in the last book but then act like the idea is new again. Morgan says he wishes he had a dvd player but specifically mentioned finding a new DVD player in the last book. The list goes on. It’s really disappointing

Passed my ick threshold
Revisado: 08-09-24
I have read the goriest zombie novels and consumed too many horror stories and movies to count. Everyone has an ick threshold though.
The line for me is eroticizing gore. When one starts to blend sexual ideas with dismemberment and evisceration then I start to think the author needs help.
Ick ick ick. Unfinishable

Narration matters

I absolutely could not finish. 4 chapters and I couldn’t endure the narration anymore. Flat. Monotone. And way too fast with zero breaks or inflection. It just runs together

Interesting
Revisado: 07-16-24
Typical of YA literature there are quite a few gaps in logic, but overall the story was entertaining. The characters were well thought out. No overt political or social agendas. No sexual content. I don’t usually enjoy YA content but I found this one held my interest. I would recommend.
Two minor issues with narration. Someone please tell her how to pronounce “writhed” and “hearth”. I’m just assuming those are the two words she was going for.

Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world’s only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller’s fingers and tastes like blood. Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.... No oxygen.
