I don't judge the narrations robotic qualifies, because it is a robot, lol. There were cool things, which is why I gave it a 3 and I got it for free with my account. I have an hour left in the book, so some of my questions could have been answered, but I doubt it.

The cool part is the way the author describes situations from different characters point of view. At first I thought it was lazy, but it wasn't. It was interesting. Another cool part was anyone can die at anytime in anyway. So, if you do try this book, don't get a favorite or anything.

I was very disappointed that so many different forms of rape where happening. The book fixated more on that than the zombies. There are "good/ moral" characters in the book, but we barely hear from them. Lots of rape (woman and children, awake and drugged), lot of drug abuse and lots of men who want to steal woman to rape. Thats clearly what they all want, lol, not to get supplies or a better place for their people or escape... just woman. Maybe we are seeing the zombie apocalypse (ZA) take place directly next to a max security prison filled with mostly rapists? If not rape, then child labor to get drugs.

It's trying to be shocking for shock value. It's sad, because the characters were kind of cool and all at different points of their life. The beginning chapters are all different points of view of the same accident, that was different and nice. Then, the rapes just kept happening. Granted, it was a group of rapists that where attacking the same group of people, but honestly, did they get a "rapists are us" post out before the ZA or something? I can see how the author tried to weave the usefulness for the drugs after the ZA, but wish he had shown it in use, not talked about it.

Not a good book, but I have been scavenging all the free zombie books and, PLEASE believe me, there are worse zombie books out there. I think I can finish this one at least.

This was really interesting to listen to. The content talks about terrible things, but does so through a learning and awareness lense. I really liked the viewpoints and seeing how the BAU works to put criminals behind bars and studies them to help catch future wrong doers.

I like the main guys pov, even though I don't always agree. I feel like this one is more realistic in the way the characters behave. They don't help every group, they don't pilage a lot of places and make an empire, they are just trying to escape. It gives me Black Summer vibes.

Zombies with a twist- suggest listening in chronological order

The story is alright as it goes for zombie books. The characters are constantly attacked, but the zombies are a little different. They come from an ancient tomb discovered in Egypt where a fungus and other things were lurking. They come in 2 stages- the first stage: adrenaline rush mixed with the need to infect, not feed; the second: more inteligent carriers who shy away from the light. The things that happen all have a good reason, except for the sensitivity to the telepathic communications... that sounds like the next book which is not out yet.
Left with a huge cliff hanger, these books so far answer all the questions throughout the series, so I guess if you really need to know, you'll have to read it yourself.

likes: the continuity over 8 books was good. The character growth was good and most things made sense. I really appreciated that there was just enough of an explanation for the creatures to be believable. Also, I loved how people who didn't function "normally" in society excelled when the world came down for different reasons. I work with special needs kids and found this to be a nice addition to the book. One character had adhd tendencies and was overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of every day life while the other one was mentally stunted, but was able to be a better human than his non disabled peers when left to make tough decisions.

dislike: how many things will happen to one group of people any given moment. The main characters are the only ones who really get kidnapped, but never killed. With 8 books it is tough to make something new happen and at some points it felt repetitive. Also, not sure why one character (Atler) was able to do what he did (trying to not spoil it) with the monsters. The explanation was weird and vague, especially with what happened to the rehabilitated drug guy later on. It was conflicting. Atler is a violent man and the drug guy was more like a hippie, so aligning with why the monsters are attacking it just doesn't make sense to me.

overall: good books. if you like zombies/ monsters you will like it. The books are really about family and survival with lots of monster o. human and human on human violence. The main characters are separated throughout most of the books and are dealing with the physical and mental strain of not having eachother (farmermother doing more physical jobs husband usually did not knowing if he is alive or not while raising their daughter; military father sent far away on training mission when lights go out must fight to get home not knowing if his family will be alive). It touches on the cruelty and selflessness of our humanity. Each character represents an aspect of our society (deep thinking) and the good and bad each one brings with them.

You could read most of the books by themselves up to about book 7 as they recap a lot, but it makes best sense to read in order. Book 10 does a good job of summing up the series. Questions that seem insignificant in book 1-9 turn into the ending. It all makes sense. I appreciate that.

I enjoyed the book series as a whole. I really liked the world building and the idea of a "slip witch." I liked how the characters reacted and, on more than one occasion, wished this was a TV show, lol. I found the focus on family to be a breath of fresh air. I'm glad I found this series.

I have to say I liked this book more than The Martian... both are great books, but this one was a little "more" for me. I love the character growth Grace goes through on his journey. I usually do not like "lost memory" themes, but this one did it so well I actually did. You should listen. This may feel a little more science fiction than The Martian, or at least for me it did, but still talks loads about science (I'm going to be honest I am not a scientist so not sure it's correct, but from what little I do know it seems right- In the first chapters he talks about speed and uses the correct equation, so I assume that some of it is at least theoretical if not real while other parts were probably 100% made up, lol). Either way it worked for me.

I heard there is a possible movie with Ryan Gosseling to play Grace. We shall see, I'm excited!

The story was good as alien stories go, but there was a lot of sex! Sometimes just stupid, wrong time sex. It kind of got in the way of the major story line plot and was distracting at times. Still good

That dog is the funniest thing I have ever heard about. The story was cute as well. Back to the dog though, lol, he's a trained services animal that failed the test because he does what he wants!!!
