Historia
"Lady Anna" (1874) is a novel by Anthony Trollope. It describes Lady Anna's attempts to resolve the conflict between her duty to her social class and her duty to the man she loves. The story takes place at about the time of the First Reform Act of 1832. Lady Anna is the daughter of the late Earl Lovel. Her mother married him out of ambition, despite his evil reputation. Soon after their marriage, he told her that he had a living wife, which made their union invalid and their unborn daughter illegitimate.

Another Good Trollope Tale
Revisado: 06-23-24
I very much enjoyed this Trollope story. A bit different from some of his others but it held my interest and kept me wondering how it would play out. I thought the narration was quite good. Many have noted some occasional extraneous noise but this was rare and barely noticeable. Hardly a problem.
Also, this narrator announced the beginning and end of each chapter. This is unusual but I experienced it with a couple other books. I rather like it since I prefer to pause my listening at the end of a chapter. Much better this way than the recordings that rush into the next chapter without a pause. Just my thoughts.
All in all a good listen.

A course that everyone should take, but is sadly missing from our schools. I left lots of bookmarks so I could return to them. Well done.

Historia
The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma. Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm? We may find out in this novel. We may not. Who can say?

Not the best but still good.
Revisado: 08-27-23
The Ladies #1 Detective Agency novels never fail to entertain and warm the heart. This was no exception even though it wasn’t one of the best. The new narrator for this volume, Adjoa Andoh, did a beautiful job with her narration and the voice for Mma Ramotswe.
However, I agree that the other character voices were not as good and jarringly different from what we have come to know after 20 books with Lisett Lecat, a very hard act to follow. Still, I enjoyed the visit back to Botswana and our friends there.

Historia
In 1972, Sears, Roebuck, and Co. was America's greatest store, accounting for over 1 percent of the gross national product. Suddenly, profits plummeted and the stock price collapsed. Sears was at civil war and in need of a new leader. In 1978, Edward R. Telling became the Sears chairman, and by 1984 Sears was back on top, bigger than ever. Telling turned things around so dramatically it seemed like a miracle. But the resurrection of Sears as a great American merchant was no miracle, but the result of the power, vision, and will of strong leadership.

A very interesting story of Sears and a bit of nostalgia for those of us with fond memories of the store, it’s catalogs and Christmas wish books. So sad they could not turn around again. I miss the “Big Store”

Preachy

Although there is some good info, it is really nothing new. The same ideas are better done in other books (Kondo’s for one). Plus this one gets over the top preachy and verging on an agenda.

Excellent story & performance
Revisado: 12-24-21
The first time I’ve read the actual book vs. the movie. So much different and I think it is Verne’s best. I sampled several readers before settling on this one. James Langton was the best and we thoroughly enjoyed his narration. Highly recommend this version of The Mysterious Island.

Lively, absorbing, often outrageously funny, Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales is a work of genius, an undisputed classic that has held a special appeal for each generation of readers. The Tales gathers 29 of literature's most enduring (and endearing) characters in a vivid group portrait that captures the full spectrum of medieval society, from the exalted Knight to the humble Plowman. This unabridged work is based on the new translation.

Excellent translation. Understandable, but retained the poetry and feel of the original. The readers were all excellent also. The stories themselves were just alright, but I always wanted to read them and as another reviewer said, I’m glad to get them under my belt.

Historia
In The Madness of Crowds Douglas Murray investigates the dangers of ‘woke’ culture and the rise of identity politics. In lively, razor-sharp prose he examines the most controversial issues of our moment: sexuality, gender, technology and race, with interludes on the Marxist foundations of ‘wokeness’, the impact of tech and how, in an increasingly online culture, we must relearn the ability to forgive.
